10 Years of Meteor 4 years ago

Used to churn out so many side-projects on meteor. My first application was a chat application, that our teams ended up using on several projects (this was before slack).

I remember that the effortless hosting they had setup was a dream. Still have never got that feeling again from any project.

I think it's just lazy when a page like this that doesn't have media queries. Seriously.

There's some encoding issues here. Can't write æøå, which is important letters in the norwegian language.

And it is seriously slow now, might be where it's been deployed, might be that I'm waiting for googleadservices on each page load. Might be the hug of death from hn.

Haha, I made the a comment about something related to this the other day.

Funny how things just spring to life.

"Here's an even cooler idea: instead of listing emerging ideas, ,and beta projects, what about creating a website service for finishing almost done apps (alpha projects if you like). That would be a more interesting list. People could upload their started, but not finished projects and outline what's left. There must be millions of good ideas that has been started, but never finished due to the fact that the developer didn't find the problem interesting anymore. Specialize in one thing, like iphone-apps."

At least in Norway, the pay is also about 30% higher without the need of a administration. So there's that too. Instead of saying freelance, say independent contractor.

Yes, that's real mature. Thanks. Well well.

I think most pages are interested in getting a reasonable view in mobile. From my experience the cheapest and best way is to use media queries and say for everything with a viewport less than 700px, let the divs get a 100% in width. Add that to you base.css and it should already be 100x better for your customers/users.

Probably is really nice to be on the apple-map-team team right now. They get pushed in delivering something, then probably gets a nice "you suck and you should feel bad for making us look bad"-reception from everyone. I don't know about you guys, but I for one think someone ought to give these guys a pat on the back and a pitcher of beer with a note saying "this too shall pass".

I've used it _alot_ especially for scripting. Really powerful support for quickly write dynamic code to run transformations, connect to db's, connect to mq's etc. It's easier to read than python (for me) and you can just drop a lib in groovy_home for support to whatever dbdriver (like oracle). Seriously give it a go, before you call it senseless. But you know, use what you know and what you can be effective with to solve a given problem.

Harvestapp has a timer and manually doing it.

What would be a cool feature, is if you could use the gps as the timetracker. You were at the location 10 hours, how many do you want to bill etc.

Just an idea :) Simplicity is nice, but lots of your competitors have that already. What sets you aside?
