"The dealer is always going to tell you to do more drugs — that’s not insight, that’s a revenue projection dressed up as wisdom."

Classic Claude turn of phrase and em dash give-away...

Love this ‘self-help’ book to reframe where you might need to compete for profit or where it can be competitive/play for fun.

But more importantly to interpret the competitive behavior of others and identify where its not even necessary to compete at all. Because you can choose to play a different level of game than those around you. (Hint: its usually people playing too small finite win/lose games that you’d like to not engage with wherever possible)

Also a bit disappointed in the article that it doesn’t connect the dots between WIAM and CIAM for B2B. One companies customer is another companies workforce.

Many of the apps you want to have for your workforce are actually third party, but you want to give SSO etc with an employee account. These saas apps need to not only provide CIAM ala “sign in with google” but allow the Customer to set up the connection with the WIAM to give employees access.

Agreed, the critical article does raise some good points that these more decentralized/fedarated/self-hosted/self-custody protocols need to incorporate in their designs at some point of they really want to scale to challenge the current status quo of social media.

My journey has been to start with data visualization using d3.js etc and gradually moved into much more complex tech stacks for vis & data processing.

Data visualization is very much user facing and lots of opportunity to let your more designerly intuitions in visual storytelling, communication motivate you along the way.

Then gradually you start to learn more about UI programming, but also data preparation with larger and more complex datasets.

Stuff like this would be interesting but I think could only work if all art assets are then also uploaded to IPFS, game code is made open source so anyone could run/build/modify the game experience without any permission of the original publisher.

No game business seem to be really committing to that full picture yet…

johnson seems to be hyper self aware of what he is doing and i’m here for it! In a way its a similar debate to the one on SW VIII where he was going too meta on the nature of the force which caught a whole bunch of fans off guard.

In a way for me smart contract blockchains are a good example of developers focussing on creating very efficient functional building blocks. A smart contract has 'functional' aspects in that it produces operations that update the state/storage. Developers are incentivised to think about direct cost due to gas/storage fees. Chain-level transaction standards create a base-level of interoperability.

All of this being on-chain basically gives 'event logging' out of the box so all functions (i.e. contracts) on a chain can be monitored by any developer involved.

(Building this part myself: https://thestackreport.xyz/dashboards/tezos)

How does this specifically help with dashboards?

All of the examples would be just as easy to build with a regular UI library combined with charts from some charting library of which there are just as many out there as well.

Meaning-making is quite an ambiguous thing and mostly in the eye of the beholder. Taking that as a starting point I basically follow what others are responding to which led me to building tools, data analysis and writing articles for the digital/generative art community experimenting with blockchain on the https://thestackreport.xyz.

Started out with posting some initial charts on twitter in 2021 which got good feedback and it grew from there. Hanging out in art circles helps a lot btw for questioning what is 'meaningful'.

Nice, having sound in the loop for human-computer interaction I think is way undervalued. We have notification sounds yes, but would love to have more background tasks with some kind of subtle audio signal.

Especially now that these apple silicon macbooks turned so quiet, before you could still sort of get a hint that your computer is acting strangely when all of a sudden the fan would speed up.

Very much abusing my M1Max lately having it run some heavy data scripts & docker 24/7

The main thing that initially got me excited with Stadia were the ideas around having much bigger shared gaming worlds enabled by google-scale cloud expertise.

Too bad that all it turned out to result in was video streaming optimisation.
