Empathy for Dummies 10 months ago

The premise of this piece and the way it's written gives me the feeling this applies to neurodivergent people on the autism spectrum, not dummies in general.

but rather because so many things in our culture and society has been subtly altered to benefit women more and more over several decades to the point that men feel like getting into a relationship, or just investing in a woman at all, is a great way of getting screwed over

I'm a man, and I don't have this experience. Your comment makes me curious — what has changed and in what way to make it more likely that men will be screwed over by women? Is it that women are more likely to reject/leave a man once he has invested, or are you thinking about something else entirely?

React 19 2 years ago

Practically every frontend framework uses components. The problem with React is that so many of its abstractions are leaky and forces a lot of accidental complexity on the developer.

I agree. I want to avoid the JVM. Also some functional features in Kotlin like immutable data structures are shallow and can be circumvented.

Also, practically it's only really viable to use IntelliJ as editor, since the language server in e.g. VS Code is pretty bad.

I think it can set your free, but I don't think it's a necessity. I think it's totally possible to move on and process something without forgiving.

There's currently a cultural pressure to forgive, as if that's the only option. That makes things more difficult for those who are not able to forgive. There is no right way to process a wrong.

They have an interest in this conflict that is not the same as Israel's.

You are quite right, Israel's interest is to kill and displace the Palestinians, crush them as a people. Very few human right groups would have an interest that aligns with that.

The ICJ did say that South Africa's accusation of genocide was plausible, which is also the reason they decided to proceed with the case.

This is what a professor of international law has to say about the case: https://www.ejiltalk.org/speaking-the-law-plausibly-the-inte...

And if over 30,000 dead Palestinians so far isn't enough for you, the intent is the central issue of genocide, though the Palestinian casualties will undoubtably rise.

It's because Israelis truly feel, to their core, that Hamas has proven themselves to be an enemy that must be destroyed, otherwise Israelis are just never going to be safe again.

Has there been public debate in Israel wheter:

1. It is realistic to eradicate Hamas. 2. To what extent Israel's operation will sow new hate and resistance among the Palestinians, so that the risk of future attacks increases, whether that be by Hamas or any other resistance group.

It's a mood tracking app. Saturated market, but it was a good first app for me because it's fairly simple.

It's a good course, I went through it and soon after had an app published in the App store. (I assume it's still not updated with the improvements that came to SwiftUI with iOS 17, but not 100% about that.)

SvelteKit (a meta framework) is still not at 1.0, but Svelte itself is at 3.53 and mature and stable. We've used it production for several apps (moving from React). It's been a joy to work with.

I started to dislike him after "the pedofile tweet". That kind of behaviour points to dark narcissistic personality traits.

Apart from that, where to start? He has pressured his employees to work under the risk of contracting covid in the early phases of the pandemic, and now as the latest thing he comes off as a Russia apologist, if not outright sympathiser of their war against Ukraine. Musk has an uncanny ability to fall lower with regards to moral standards when you didn't think it possible.
