That's because you can't be both! The shell wants to be both an API and a user interface, and these are two goals that are fundamentally at odds. An API should be structured, strongly-typed, unforgiving; a UI should be discoverable, intuitive and unconstrained by the needs for automation or programmability. Programmers are stuck in the idea that a command-line shell running in a terminal emulator (emulating hardware from the 70's) is the pinnacle of interaction design, which is extremely sad.

I don't know which reality bubble you live in, but this is utterly false. I live in the country side and get routinely an average of 40% packet loss on many, many websites. There are plenty of occasions for packets to get lost somewhere between a client and a server.

QBasic supports subroutines (called SUB for procedures and FUNCTION for functions). You can write very structured code with QBasic; pretty much the only thing it lacks is pointers, but it's a very capable language otherwise.

There's nothing shocking to anyone who knows how music recording (in particular stoner / doom metal) happens. Recording yourself several times is standard practice (it's called doubling or quading in sound engineering terms). It fattens the sound because the performer will not play exactly the same thing twice: it is just like having two guitar players in unison. Recording with several microphones is also standard practice. Mic placement has a HUGE influence on the sound you get so you will usually use at least 3 mics when recording a guitar amp; more mics just gives you more flexibility to achieve the final mix.

I've backed the campaign as soon as I found out about it a couple weeks ago. The ergonomics, full customizability and repairability is a perfect match for what I'm looking for in a keyboard. Your numbers are also false for motorcycles (which all run on gas and not diesel which is the subject of the conversation here). My BMW's 800cc rotax paralell twin does exactly that (4.5L cruising on the highway). Even the 1200cc boxer does that AFAIK.
