Everyone assumes when AGI super intelligence arrives it will try to dominate humanity. No one has considered it may simply refuse to respond…

Every sector will have its advantages and disadvantages. You must find the one that is right for you.
You will not overcome this with everything buzzing in your mind. Take every opportunity to unplug, self isolate, and ground yourself in silence. Breath. Let the anxiety evaporate from you, at least for those moments. Nothingness is your friend, your closest intimate companion. It is a challenging skill which must be practiced.
I don’t know your environment, I like to take long walks. Sometimes loosing myself in exercise. Sure I sometimes “meditate” only that is the opposite of how it sounds.
Competence and capability are like good hygiene. You have a little nagging voice inside you that says keep the lines neat, tie up the ends, clean up afterwards, and then the loud pressing urge to just get the job done, do only what is required, and react to a million things confronting you.
In every situation endure without complaint, giving more than was asked, seeing through the finer details even when not explicitly demanded of you will transform you into a respected person of capacity.
It is always harder in the beginning, your investments will pay off. When I was just getting started I used to say motivational things to myself like “form, focus, patience” or “integrity, principle, devotion”. Some mantra that suits you may drown out the self doubt and leave your attention for your personal growth!
Have you enabled “show dead?”
Your difficulty may be rooted in psychology.
Many do not like discussing “psychological temperaments” because they are not “scientific enough”, though you yourself are of a culture who can recognize that even science does not adequately explain everything.
By standards of psychological temperament, it would seem that your father was “introspective” and you are “extrospective”. In brief, those who are “introspective” live life referring to a map within themselves, and those who are extrospective look to external signs for their bearings. As we are social creatures, it is not unusual for ourselves (and our families) to have mixtures of psychological temperaments as they complement and cover for one and other.
You should not be too worried about getting the right technology or specific focus. You should worry about being competent and diligent. Keep yourself organized, follow through, don’t give up even if you aren’t sure. Especially if you aren’t sure. Check the market, look for the statistical average and also the leading edge. Focusing on the average is job security, focusing on the edge is a bit more exciting and specialized, if you are an overachiever. If you’re not an overachiever don’t try to be! You will likely only be discouraged and fail.
I suspect electrical engineering will be much more in wide demand in the future than computer engineering. You could focus on something combining both, like telecommunications or satellite or data centers infrastructure as these are combined disciplines which are growing in demand.
Being thorough, well organized, and driven to completion will be the successful trait no matter what you do. FOMO is a trap for young minds. Competence and capable will be the most desired skill whichever technology used.
Good luck!
Yes, yes they are, though it is even more complicated than that.
It occurs in many circumstances that people actually only hear what they want to hear. Saying the wrong thing is a terrible burden. Either immediately categorizing people into an immutable bin, or leading a chase into a thicket of distraction. Or worse yet, a thread that once pulled has to be tugged at and nagged at until whatever or whoever is completely unraveled.
Honesty is a fairly new invention, and one which comes at the luxury of those well accommodated by life. Those who don’t feel imminently threatened, or more likely, those who think God is watching.
The “otherwise” side throughout the history of humanity has worked out that sweet lies are more compelling (rewarding) than bitter truths. You know if you don’t say “fine” when someone asks “how are you doing?” You will be harassed for your personal dealings. You also know if you don’t pattern match for what someone is looking for, yours will be the one who does without.
Truth requires integrity and principles, as well as a dose of naïveté. Usually at the expense of one’s self.
“Freedom fuel”
And people say Trump doesn’t support socialism…
Exports from the US is not a win. It’s like looting our piggybank to subsidize the deficit.
No. Some people enjoy dominating others. Some were broken and think those who aren’t broken are living a life of lies. Still others will sell anyone out to get a better piece for themselves.
Often these various categories are magnitudes more intelligent and self aware than anyone you think of as smart. They were just integrated into life through different configurations.
It takes a surprising amount of knowledge and intelligence to live the successful life of evils.
I had to stop watching one of the Transformers movies when in the opening conflict they had to go beat up on some Muslims.
And those French gangster movies where the Turkish guy is the cool villain eroding lawful civic French values.
I find it refreshing when a plot is balanced with a white guy antagonist undermining the lawful order.
Whatever you think feel or believe, evil lurks within every kind of person. Our entertainment would reflect this as all forms of art imitate life.
With questions like that? No.
Just look around you for interesting things happening, go hang out, and over time find out where you fit in!
Stop being so needy, that’s not really appealing. Have you even asked your LLM yet? What is a mob of humans going to do for you that you haven’t tried doing for yourself?
Besides, you don’t really want someone “like you”, you want someone(s) more interesting than you with the patience and tolerance to include you.
Just do things on your own (get started on your own interests), while keeping an eye out for the obvious things (ask your LLM), and over time get to know what’s happening and what others are up to.
Helping others who cannot help themselves is tedious, not endearing.
You could simply run an alternative browser that is not logged in, and switch to the logged in browser for interaction worthy activities.
I’m pretty sure that’s because the US ramped up production to create its own oil glut to soften gas prices during the pinch.
I do adore a great many socialists. You will find many are actually altruistic intellectuals.
However I like to say, if you are a true socialist and not a hypocrite, then spend some time as a civil servant or in some capacity which is responsible for the well being of other people you are not related to.
And I can think of two for instance in which socialist values work: cooperatives and military service!
Some of what you say is noise prattling around the echo chamber of minds and not reflecting true dispositions in reality.
Anyone can “call” or “say” anything in this age of amplification. Sides will always make excessive generalizations of the other.
Everyone sees the “other” side as a collective singular body of “them” and their own side as a collection of distinguishable individuals like “us.”
Such radicalism never materializes from a vacuum. All extremes come as an iterative increment until a critical mass compels the middle over a ledge.
Nothing happens without mobilizing and catalyzing the middle. All “sides” know this.
This looks interesting, though you should know that “buddies” aren’t the ones who are too much alike, buddies are the ones different enough to complement each other, yet alike enough not to disagree too often. That’s why they say “opposites attract” even among “platonic” relationships.
This could mean you might take the “temperament” of the person posting (like “estj”) and map the 2nd and 4th to the 4th and 2nd (the 2nd is regarded as the “input” and the 4th the “output”) so “S” is compatible with “P” and “N” Is compatible with “J”.
And then give a bonus modification for the opposite of the others, so “E” likes “I” and vise versa (always a quite dude hanging out with a talkative dude, though not exclusively). And “T” prefers the company of “F” though not exclusively (see these as technical and creative.)
This gives you compatible interfaces (input/output) and diverging (thus “more interesting”) social dispositions.
You could probably turn that into a good dating algorithm if it isn’t already, though it works for “pals” too!
The vacillation between extremes, with an apathetic middle who trudges on in dejection of all sides but their own comfortable convenient complicity.
I remember when I was in India some 20 years ago, I saw Modi on television. He was giving an interview and the reporter asked him about members of the Muslim community speaking out against some Hindu nationalist agendas. Modi’s response began with the phrase “no one is saying that …”. I remember thinking, here is a man of political power who so refuses to acknowledge even hearing the words and concerns of his opposition.
I love India, and the many sides of India, though all of this time later, hearing this man’s story, I cannot help but consider the course these past decades of history have taken.
Nationalism and failure to support the civilizing principles of law are a fatal combination anywhere for anyone.
Oh I remember the “rolling brown outs” of Orange County, CA. All a big power company scam to jack up the juice prices!
Sure DO!
I’ve always been a self trainer, who has had a few influential teachers from time to time. I travel a lot.
When I was “really into it” I trained up to six hours a day. This was really due to learning some basic staff techniques. Once I had an object that participated in my development I couldn’t put it down.
I would wake up and do my exercises. I went to work. Came home for lunch and got a little exercise/training in, went back to work. Got home after work and went to the park and exercises/trained until the dark came.
I did this fusion of Wing Chung (direct), Ba Gua (control of space), Parkour (tumbles rolls), and basic parts of capoeira (best full body workout). I always wished I had taken on some minimal grappling techniques at least (neglected).
All of this composed a life of fitness, great hand eye coordination, and keen reflex.
We all grow old, and it’s better you got your hard core training in before that happens.
Have fun!
