Again, I’m not agreeing with the sexist commentary (or necessarily any of it for that matter). The response is equally unproductive though.

I’m not sure which is more bitter, the original article or its response. If you’re going to disagree with someone, actually address the points he makes. Attacking him personally is petty and isn’t conducive to real discussion. Peter's feelings aren't necessarily without merit--why not discuss them?

The most interesting part of that article is the non-chalant last line: "Once the [wooly mammoth's] tissues have been treated to a nuclear transfer process, the eggs will be implanted into the womb of a live elephant for a 22-month pregnancy."

Cloning wooly mammoths! Now that is cool.

While these numbers will never be perfect, per se, RITA[1] shows that in 2011, Southwest's loadfactor was 80.8% while in 2012, loadfactor was 80.4%. So, the flights remained around 80% full on average.

I took this into account in my calculation and assumed roughly 4.8 more seats were filled on average per flight, not a full 6.

1. We just pushed the import feature a couple days ago so we're still tweaking how it works. This is a good suggestion, I'll definitely take it into consideration.

2. You should be seeing 1.3.7 as the 'old version' (last update we detected). We're still working on better branch/track breakdown--this isn't an issue for most packages.

BundleScout[1] does this for other languages, including Node.js and Python--and of course Ruby Gems. We don't have Github integration yet, but you can simply upload your requirements file (which, it seems, some people would rather do anyway).

Typically, the updater runs about once a day. If you take another look, it will show the latest security update :) We're working very, very hard to guarantee that no updates go missed and ensure that you receive a notification within 24 hours of any update going out.

And while, yes, you can watch the RSS feed or Google group, do you really want to do that for Django and the other 29 libraries you use?

It seems particularly crazy to me that many people find out about security releases (or any releases) like this. What happens when one doesn't make the front page of HN?

I hate to be the negative nancy here, but there is absolutely nothing in this slide deck about learning design. You learned how to use Photoshop and parrot other designs--and that's a fine start--but you absolutely did not learn any design fundamentals.

It would be exceptionally helpful if you put your email address in your profile, too (in the "about" section).

We're better at making things look good. That is not design.

Labels serve two purposes, really. The first being a form of organization: when I want to find a certain message, I can find it properly filed away under it's appropriate label.

The second is prioritization and "action markers." This is where labels aren't the optimal solution. Because the labels don't truly prioritize anything (your inbox doesn't get sorted by priority, except for "priority" and "everything else")--and it's a loosely ruled system--you need to define rules that result in actions to actually create priorities.

I think that's where Mailbox app will shine: it enforces a priority system. Whether or not it will eliminate the need for proper categorization for other purposes, though? I'm doubtful.

Tangentially related, but reading this was very reminiscent of the movie Contagion: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1598778/.

It's true that this is just a short synopsis of my thoughts on the subject. A more in-depth piece may be worthwhile and I'll definitely explore further--thanks for the suggestion!

What are you giving them that isn't likely already public information?

I don't know if it's really that odd. Jason's feelings about the way a company should be run may have been at odds with the way Groupon was run. However, that wasn't what Andrew asked Jason to provide guidance on.
