street view has images from years ago depending on where the google cars are mapping in that moment, waymo needs constant mapping of the cities it has cars in, therefore needing more man-hours. furthermore the driving laws differs from country to country, and in most of the world the road paint/signs are borderline indescifrable for a human, let alone a machine. i'm not saying that it can't be done, but it is already expensive in big US cities, it just do not scale well.

because waymo relies on a continuous mapping of the cities you can take it. that's why it is available in few US cities, but this does not scale at all. The point of those startups (and tesla's) is to produce something that can drive everywhere whitout prior information (fantasy world right now)

i have a raspberry pi3 (4gb, 50 euros) and a pi5 (8gb, 100 euros). i run a k0s cluster (for fun) w/ pihole, plex, some monitoring and homeassistant. that for me is cost effective

nop, corpos acquire a lot of houses in the market and rent them. They can pay more for the houses since their scope of investment (years to break even) is longer than your average mens' lifespan. rent goes up. a smaller and smaller percentage of population can buy houses because there are fewer on the market. rent keeps everyone poor. This is happening now, in every major developed country

Actually i do agree with the statement. I live near the biggest city in my state and my friends are different in ideas, political opinions and preferences (also kinda different in economic possibilities) due to the fact that we all went to the same highschool, and there are few places where the young can socialize. on the contrary my brother lives in that big city and its friends are ALL coming from the same cultural background, with the same ideas and the same political leaning (that he chooses during university)

this is getting philosophical, but maybe humans are sophisticated tools

harsh reality is that 80% of humanity works a dead-end/awful/not wanted job just because bills. IT is a nice bubble in which you do something you are mostly passionate about and you get paid well. I'm not saying "we got it good so don't complain" but sometimes is worth to analyze the situation from the perspectivo of an outsider. IMO i can do whichever tech job, the more i dislike it the more i need to be paid, that's all

I actually had a discussion regarding this topic with a peer of mine that at the time was doing art-studies . She was extremely angry and devastated that in her field weren't enough jobs available for every one that mayored in it. That was a real complaint, for her the state should step in and guarantee a well-paid job for everybody in the exact field that everyone chooses, Like "I want to be a painter" and the day after they give you a place to work on your paintings

i agree in part with the parent comment, art can be done for hobby or for work, if the work part is being replaced by generators then art will be confined as an hobby and maybe that will be better for everyone. Stop at all the laundry-multimillionary "art" racket.

btw, regarding copyright use, i don't see how AIs are not in the "fair use" category, they take human-generated content and apply a transformation to it, generating new images. The only problem is that generating images is a million-times quicker and cheaper

i agree with both, "finished" software i think can happen only with small pieces of sotfware, every medium size+ project needs a continuous development

well, not questioning that the market makers are not encouraged to make the market "fair", they wants to make the market "favorable" for its own people but i see a difference between companies that sell luxury goods (not relevant for humanity) and companies that permeates every single aspect of your life, mostly in sublte and sketchy ways, selling data of people that don't even know they generate.

yeah, not a thing in this comment makes sense. you can train a model to have specific (subtle or less) opinionated approaches to answering, a good example of this is midjourney apparently only generating attractive people in its compositions due to the preference of the internet media to that category of humans

I agree with 3/4 of this comment, but the only region run by germans is Trentino, there are a couple regions that run on their own (Lombardia, Veneto and Piemonte). Said that, the more south you go the worse things get, and if you pass Rome the situation is tragic
