Hello, I'm the author of Djot!

THe idea behind Djot is to allow a playground-like tool that can allow me to easily and quickly write React and Javacsript/Typescript code and have it execute and render instantly.

Ever since Storybook came to the scene several years ago I've always wanted the ability to have a tool that allows me to just write React and have it functional without fiddling with setup, configuration, or anything else.

Thhis is the very first public release of Djot aimed at showcasing the concept and gathering feedback from early adopters.

There are many features I'd like to implement down the road, there are many bugs that needs to be fixed, and I'd love knkow what you can come up with as a usecase for Djot.

Nobody seems to mention the fact that most of VR games out there require using the hard-to-familiarize hard-to-memorize joysticks to interact with the game.

I own a Valve Index and I mostly don't play it because of it's just really a hassle to have to physically stand up (or even seated) and to wave your arms around, only to forget how to reload your damn gun after a couple of weeks/months of not playing.

I wish that people built simple keyboard-and-mouse VR games that I could enjoy the VRness of the experience using my fingers and palms like I'm used to in the past 30 years.

I want CSGO VR, not a good-looking-cheap-knock-off that I need to figure out how to reload each gun and where to draw the grenade from. I want Cities Skylines VR where I can see my city from above wherever I look. I want Red Alert VR.

The most enjoyable games I currently have that is worth whipping VR out for are those I can play with a regular XBox controller which I'm quite familiar with already.

I imagine trides building from various inspiration, "clans" in the multiplier world is one - do note that some are "top-down" kind of approach, e.g. they have a leader or a group of leaders, while others still have a "bottom-up" approach, where everyone is part of the whole and have a similar weight in it.

Assuming I understand your question correctly - some trides will form a military-like structure, e.g. a top commander and some kind of heirarchichal responsibilities tree stemming from the top.

For example, in the tride I'm building currently I'm the one responsible for it - how will decisions be made? That remains to be seen - and that's one of the goals of the tride to figure out for itself (at least for ours), I'm assuming it'll be tied to some aspects of the way the tride will decide to conduct itself financially, if at all.

For example, we might decide that the tride has a small community pool of funds which we use to support community lead efforts, projects, and initiatives - e.g. we might want to utilize some of the new Dall-e and other AI software to produce content and generate revenues as a result - I'd imagine that the project would have a champion (appointed or self declared) which will be sort of CEO for the initiative, while the tride itself will act as a board of such an initiative.

Let me know if it provides some clarity on how something like this can operate - but do bare in mind that this is just one simple example and a very specific case...

A tride can be many things - a facebook group focused on certain topic, an NFT project I've noticed are very tribal in behaviour and form, a pirate ship would be probably considered such a tride.

A tride can have a leader, someone who leads it, or it can have a council - a group of people who are in charge of the tride. Back in the Roman and Greek days they'd have two kings - one military, and one political - I imagine trides experimenting with such systems to explore what works for each individual tridal organization.

I see human congregation as individual organisms who operates as a whole via the inidividual composing it, the same way a human body is an organism that operates thanks to the individual contribution of each and every organ.

How will this reflect in human trides? I hope to see many different and diverse trides that will explore the various ways of living and cooperating together. It's one of the primary things that draws us to computer games - we can create any kind of societies in them that we want to be part of, and I don't think we should just accept the few ways we have to do so today in the current cultural framework.

Cooperation - People want to work with each other but with the capitalist mechanism and existing regulatory structures we are limited to two types of cooperation: marriage, or company Ltd. Both may be good for their needs, but the company Ltd. comes with a lot of problems, and it does not represent the individuals in the tribe, it does not know how to take responsibility for them, and all a company Ltd. knows is to take the work and labor of an employee and give him immediate pay for it. For us as individuals it makes it difficult to build connections, relationships, and career or professional development because we are either committed to our business (and with it to board in many cases), or we are employed and must change employer once per period because the employer does not address the changing needs of the employee. And the needs of the employee in the twenty-first century have changed beyond recognition compared to the needs of the employee in the twentieth century in which the mechanism of a company Ltd. has developed and become established.

Economic Sharing - Here too we are confined to a very limited number of ways to have an economic relationship with others - most often it is a limited company and in some cases it is all sorts of weird variations of it in the form of non-profit organization, associations, and all sorts of different and bizarre things tried over the last couple of centuries - some ideas worked better, some less so - but we are left with a very limited lexicon of financial relationships that we could perform as part of a family or as part of a limited company or an organization.

Knowledge sharing - people want to learn and teach each other a different variety of things, some professional, some artistic, some conceptual - where do they share it? Today, wherever I go to express an opinion, I first receive a string of insults about my different thinking - and that is if I managed to overcome the variety of barriers we place on ourselves in the form of bots that prevent each other's posts, in the form of too tight and closed rules that allow nothing except for very specific topics. And knowledge is power, and there are those who understand it, and it may not always be comfortable and correct to share knowledge and information with the general public. Maybe it's even dangerous sometimes.

Growth - It has been said that in order to raise a child we need a tribe, but we in our current culture are moving away from our parents in the name of self-expression - moving away from their cooking, opinions, and criticisms - for better or worse. But as a father I understand that something is very wrong here. Today's parent is required to choose very little from a very wide range, and without intention, without control, without a credible opinion, we degenerate into a cultural mess - in science, on the planet, in philosophy, in our humanity, in everything possible - because we treat ourselves incorrectly, and there is no We to have an opinion that will give us the ability to adapt our perceived selves to the existing reality. The opinion we have comes in the form of Facebook posts, some sponsored and some not - and we have no way of knowing that. And every time an opinion leader becomes popular, his opinions start to play an economic role in their life, leaving us with an interest that hurts us, that exploits our confidence in the opinion leaders we have chosen.

Innovation, purity, Tabula Rasa - we lack a playground where our rules can be defined. Establishing a school is a matter of decades and hundreds of millions of dollars in some cases. A limited company has to meet a wide range of requirements and many times the companies that are set up fail - but we still have to pay for them and the cost of setting them up and maintaining them. A city or a new town is generally an idea that no sane person would even consider as an option, unless of course he has oil fields that yield several million barrels a day.

The Trides we are going to establish are going to give us an answer in the form of whatever is chosen for the needs we are choose to focus on. There will be trides who choose to be democracies, and there will be trides who choose to be dictatorships. There will be those who grow quickly and disappear as fast as they came, and there will be those who will take a lot of time to grow and mature but eventually they will succeed. There will be economic, erotic, pirate, futuristic, outdated trides - and all of these will be Trides.

What is special about trides is that they are what we want them to be. Each and every one of you may choose to belong to one or many trides, or choose not to belong to any tride.

These trides will give us a new tool to work with - a new concept that we will define for ourselves as we see fit. A concept whose job is to be the subject of your message, not to be the message itself (although it will be just that at the beginning of its path).

And with this explanation of what a tride is, what it can be, and what I think can be done with it - I declare the establishment of the first tride: Tride One, pun intended

My Tride will deal with a variety of things that motivate me personally - and some of it will probably be to explain the trides themseves and the tools that trides can use to operate themselves (Bitcoin, crypto, DAOs, programming, and the extended digital world), write and experiment with these tools themselves (hopefully most will be open source so that other trides can use it as well), and of course develop this tride… grow it, build it, and hopefully it will give me personally tools to deal with the not so simple reality of everyday life, and maybe to others who will find interest in the general idea or this specific example.

Some basics as there's no explanation within:

It's a notebook interface, not unlike Jupyter or ObservableHQ, where you can write the standard JS you write when creating react/vue/angular apps (or vanialla if that's your cup of tea!), and it will not only instantly render infront of your eyes but you can also "deploy" apps/sites instantly without any actual build process or deploy process - it's all compiled on the fly, and the end result is an SSR rendered web app or site that loads instantly with sub-second rendering.

I've been working on it ever since the coronavirus lockdowns started, this is the mvp version I've been working on since June after earlier releasing a successful POC.

I wanted a CMS that doesn't impose anything on me.

I wanted a CMS that will perform like statically generated sites but won't penalise me in any way.

Apparently, I wanted a lot.

And then I met GraphCMS.

I fiddled with Razzle a bit as well.

When I figured out the kinks and quirks, I made Graze.

It's a CMS-less CMS. Server-side Rendering for front-end components. It has hot-module reloading and all the bells and whistles you'd want from a zero-configuration setup (don't thank me for that, it's all Razzle here).

And it just works™️.

Doing /something/ is easy. We're talking about true innovation here, don't we? Doing something /new/ is rare. Very, very, very rare.

Why the fuck? I'll tell you why. Because true innovation is too far and few in between, because it took us 60,000 years to realize that we can plant our own crops, that we can cultivate and breed our own farm animals.

Because it took us a good few thousand years to understand that there is more to life than just bashing each other with stones and sticks.

Because coming up with something new, and having the guts to share it with your community, and not being killed for it is still rather rare today.

Because it took us almost 1,500 to "accept" the fact that we're on a spherical object, not being held by a bunch of turtles. Because some of us are still not convinced that this is true.

Because most of the time we're not actually creating anything new, but instead try to improve something that was already there, because we're afraid thinking out of the box. Because our society loves new stuff as long as it doesn't change their old views, and most of the truly revolutionary ideas are just that, shattering our older views.

Because we're distrustful apes that think that their youngsters are naive or just plain stupid. Because we think that our 5 year-old's are too young to see the naked body of a human being.

Because our society teaches our kids how to suppress originality from the very first days in schools and throughout their "education", which is just a pretty word for enslavement camps that teach our population how to be obedient, unoriginal parrots.

Because if you ask 95% of humanity who they believe more, their parents or the scientists that tell them something different than what their parents (and their parents parents) said or think, they'll tell you they prefer the "truth" of their parents, ignoring facts, experiments, and their own eyes.

Because we have patent laws that do nothing but prevent true innovation. Because a lot of the ideas that we have are already protected by some stupid law and we can't actually do that. Because we can't experiment with human embryonic cells because we consider them sacred and at the same time we allow the slaughter of millions of people around the world, deny them the food that we throw away in the garbage because we simply can't consume that much.

Because we distrust each other and we intimidate and sometimes execute those who do something different. Because we're so arrogant that we're always sure that we know best, and this new thing that someone just mentioned to you won't work because of a million reasons.

But mainly, because we're lazy as fuck, and we rather complain about why we don't have anything truly new and life improving, and replying to those rants explaining the reasoning behind it.

Why? Because you're too squared in. Because you're too afraid to truly say what's on your mind. Because you don't want others to think that you're crazy. Because if you don't conform, society will reject you. And new things, are by definition, non-conforming.

Now go and create something new. I dare you.

As those of you who looked around in the code might have noticed, this is a very early release, specifically aimed at hackers who can find their way in the source code.

Like I described in the readme, this is the very first step, and the progress of this project will be determined by your response to it.

The inspiration for this projects comes from projects like Samurize, Rainmeter, Android live wallpapers, unlike those project this is not aimed to be a process running on the users computer (or mobile device) but rather a passive background that displays any relevant information.

I hope you find this project inspiring and useful even at this early stage.

Feel free to let me know what you'd like to see in the project, and push your improvements to the repository.

I can disclose the details privately, the underlying is complicated, but working (with plenty of examples), but the device I'm proposing isn't.

Easier said than done.

Building a prototype would not only require a significant investment upfront, because as I've noted already, some of the tech is still only used in labs and R&D centers for a whole other purpose, but it's yet to be widely available off-the-shelf product. And I by myself couldn't afford even buying the raw materials, not to mention about working on it for a few months, which I'm unable to do because at the end of the day somebody needs to bring food to our table.

On top of that I don't have the technical knowledge to actually build a working prototype, mind you that even though the final product might be simple and neat, making the components work with each other the way they suppose to, isn't.

How would I prepare a final product design and spec without having any knowledge in doing such thing? I don't have a CS degree, I'm not versed in the barebones of technology, but I do understand how to connect various components together to create something new.

Building the prototype initially won't be that cheap, the final product will probably be cheap because the underlying technology already exists and as noted some are available commercially (and not very expensive).

I can't say why others have failed, I can only assume that it simply hasn't been thought of using the tools and technologies I'm thinking about. It's not a matter of creating a new technology, it's a matter of combining existing technologies in a way that might be unorthodox.

Before you bash my head against a hard surface for lazy UI/Design and horrific language mistakes, this was done over the course of 2 hours last night at about 3am.

Very early stage as you can see, but I wanted to get it out there before I lock it up in some "projects" folder to never be seen again by any human.

With the little research that I've done, there are hundreds of "How To" guides on this subject, but no one is actually doing anything in this space, and I personally needed this kind of service a few times in the past, and lost some of my data to my own negligence, and I genuinely feel that this kind of service is missing from the web.

It's simply no brainer, hire professional operators to do their stuff over the wire working from anywhere on earth, getting paid in any method they chose (Bitcoin for example is going to be one of the methods), working on their own time and taking the jobs that they feel comfortable with.

I'm not referring to a marketplace, but to a bunch of cherry picked quality employees that love this kind of work, and want to do it full time or as an additional income.

Hiring: CEO, CMO, graphics design, client-side dev, server-side dev (pick one: Python/NodeJS/PHP), Linux sys-admin, wordpress/drupal/magento devs, linux operators.

I'm not exactly sure how important is to save the content as is, rather to allow users to see what I see when I want to share with them something. Sort of advanced page/screen-shot taker with easy sharing of such shots.

Well, that's a big turnoff for a dev. Why instead of maximizing the short term profit you concentrate on the long-term and make this system open with certain limitations to assure your business?

I've already started thinking about some gestures that could be used for this, but I'm wondering, how hard it's going to be on the hand(s)? I mean with the mouse and keyboard (supposing PC gaming) the hands are resting on the table 90% of the time, with this the hand(s) will be up in the air.

...unless someone puts a nice glass table on top of that thing so that my hands could rest... could this work?

As much as I would love toying with this, it really all about implementation.

There are a lot of issues to consider - what if I mean to swipe one thing but the system recognizes another? how is that handled? Does it calculate the position of my head and the perspective I'm seeing?

I agree with the above comment that this would ideally be an addition to our growing arsenal of HIDs, including keyboard, mouse, touch mouse, joystick, wacom tablets, and others are not intended to replace one or the other, most of them are complementary to other HIDs.
