It would be fantastic to add two simple features: 1) task groups (for example, a project) and 2) drag-and-drop reordering of tasks. Then it would be the only task manager one would need.

I've done low-level work in C++ with SCATS, about a decade ago. It was a challenging API to work with, not fully documented and a lot of strange timing "phenomena".

Shotwell is also awesome, that is certain. They all are. I personally think the first man down the ladder on mars should be a woman, and it would be great if it were her. However, Elon founded that company (and personally hired Shotwell) and has been a continual source of engineering inspiration, for several decades. His direction has pretty much forced the global automotive industry to go electric. People may not like some of the things he tweets, but at the end of the day, he is not going to be a historical footnote.

The only real nightmare is that a couple of Jesuits, the same guys who imprisoned Galileo for daring to suggest that the Earth revolves around the sun, came up with the Big Bang theory to explain cosmological redshift, thereby carving out another century of confusion and creationist psychosis under the psychological rule of their lawful-evil overlords in the vatican.

This is a reasonable, and i don't accuse all of Science. I am just very suspicious of the certainty with which astrophysics has pursued proof of a big bang for most of a century. There are number of glaring assumptions, many of which point back to an unreasonable level of faith in the Standard Model.

I've never heard it mentioned, but I strongly suspect that cosmological redshift is simply the result of photons losing energy over vast distances due to some as-of-yet-undiscovered interaction with the quantum vacuum. It was a couple of vatican-sponsored jesuits with an obvious creationist agenda who turned the observation of redshift into an assumption of spatial expansion to support the theory of a single-point-of-origin universe with a finite age and a finite size. I think western science is predisposed, due to religious cultural influence, to being uncomfortable with an infinite universe, because it implies our own ultimate insignificance.

The table at the end of the article, and most of the article, are meaningless. They are comparing the performance of grep and wc, programs written in C, with their own program, written in C. Python is also in the mix, and is also a program written in C. Most C programs are also valid C++ programs, so the top entry for grep should really be labelled "C/C++". I'm tired of this kind of comparison.

I went to medium.com to read this article about the forthcoming collapse of Google, and I noticed that medium.com wanted me to log in using my Google account. I find this ... unconvincing.

Right next door to a company where I was recently working was a successful startup whose entire business model consisted of using Facebook's commercial API for the analysis of the psychological profiles of its base product (the users), to detect potential terrorists. This outfit's only real customer is Australian law enforcement, and everyone who uses Facebook is attributed some non-zero terrorist score. I have told this to people who have continued to use Facebook. It's just crap and it can't die fast enough.
