Our analysis of code is algorithmically (hence we created go-git, to analyse every git repository on the web). We're doing some cool things here, everything from feature engineered models based on extracting attributes from code to turning code into vectors using deep learning.

However, when we have a conversation, it is never a bot speaking, always a real developer. This actually helps train our system (we are humble about being wrong) and makes sure that every developer has a good experience working with us.

Hey Toni, Founder of source{d} here. First of all my apologies for the bad experience. This should have not happened. We're a team of developers ourselves (no recruiters) working on making sure that these kind of situations don't happen to any developer (we started this because we were fed up with the bad practices in recruitment). We're definitely not a bot, I can promise you this. Every email gets read by a developer themselves (our team: http://sourced.tech/about) and personally answered. If you send me an email (eiso@sourced.tech) I'll personally figure out what happened here.

Hi Gustav! It is, all though these days we're named source{d}. We're working on some very cool visualisations to release later this year that allow you to dig in on all of the insights we've learned from your code. Right now there is no way yet, we're completely emerged on focusing on improving our backend (and doing some very cool stuff around deep learning to analyse your code). I'll keep you posted once we release.

I think HackerRank is a great platform for challenges but I personally believe it only shows a small part of your skill set. I am a developer myself but also have hired a lot of engineers in my career. I believe that looking at existing projects you've done on Github gives a much better overview of your coding style, knowledge and your ability to learn. It also exposes some of the biases I know that we have in our own company (for instance, we know that if you have a functional programming background you'll fit in much better in our code base and team, even though we don't do functional programming).

All of this said, I think HackerRank is a great place to improve your skills in solving interview challenges and algorithmic problems.

Disclosure: I am a co-founder at source{d} where we analyse all git based projects to understand developers through their code.

Hey everyone,

I've been a proud member of HN for over 6 years and am happy to get to post a Show HN again (has been 780 days since the last one).

This is the second attempt to post today (the last attempt was marked as duplicate post as a Show HN done on this domain years ago).

We spent the last 5 months building this product from complete scratch, we visited 250 startups across Europe. I would very much appreciate everyone's critical feedback.

For those who are at startup school next Saturday in London, come find the guy in a Tyba tshirt.

All the best,

Eiso

Hey everyone!

I've been on YC HN for over 6 years now and feel free proud to be able to show what we've been working on for the last 5 months. We built a complete product from scratch and we visited over 250 startups in Europe with professional photograhers to profile them.

I would really love everyone's feedback, be as critical as you can be.

For those next Saturday at Startup School in London, come and find me (I'll wear a Tyba t-shirt)

Thank you!

Eiso

Web developer for Tyba in Madrid, Spain (www.tyba.com)

(EU only)

Job description:

Do you think CVs are outdated and LinkedIn doesn't do a good job at presenting yourself professionally online? We do! At Tyba we have launched in March a website that let students and young professional easily create their page and show visually their curriculum, their personality and their portfolio with a creative but professional design. We want them to have a website they are proud of, they like to play with and that they can spread around , show to employers or that employers find when they google their name. We want to give recruiters the possibility to browse through high-quality profiles and have a better overview of who they will hire or request for an interview.

We work with a freemium model and give the users the possibility to upgrade for TheirName.com and for additional features such as themes against a monthly or yearly fee.

We are lucky do all that from a bright and comfortable office located in the thriving and sunny city of Madrid, in the beautiful neighborhood of Salamanca.

We are now seeking an oustanding developer to join our international team of gifted talents. Our developers are responsible for exploring Tyba's potential and growing its user base, helping them to get hired and companies to find talents. This is an amazing opportunity to be part of an exciting project, to grow with the company and have an impact on numerous people's lives.

Responsibilities

At Tyba, you will work on a fast evolving product within our small team and together with our developer Tristan, our designer Zuri, our Manager Eiso and occasionally with our back-end developer Parminder located in the US.

Our work atmosphere is that of a startup, casual. Everybody is aware and sometimes involved in the startup different aspects : the sales to the public and to universities, our high-level customer service, the decision making and the product development.

As one of the two developers, you will have the chance to have a major impact on the product. We have a long list of small to large features and improvements we would like to implement and that you will work on. New ideas will be also coming on the way from the whole team. We will constantly test the product, try to get as much feedback as possible and think about ways to make it better.

On the technical aspect we use the best tools we find out there to date to develop the product. We work mainly with PHP on the server side, JavaScript using the jQuery library on the client side and MySQL for the database. We might have to use Python or Ruby on the server side in the future. On the back end we run our nginx server with Amazon Web Services (EC2) and we store our files using their Content Delivery Network S3.

We work with several APIs, especially Google Analytics and Google Charts APIs to display the users' website analytics. Facebook API to allow the user to connect to Tyba with Facebook and to share or post content on Facebook. Namecheap and DNS Made Easy APIs to buy and propagate domains chosen by the users. In the future we will certainly use others. Since all of them have good libraries, there is usually a fast learning curve.

We use Github for version controlling to have a nice and clear workflow.

To give you an idea of what we are doing on a daily basis, here is a list of recent projects our developer has been working on:

- Creating a referral system that allow the user to select their Facebook friends who they want to post on their walls. We use a unique link for each user and award points for new visitors or users brought. - Building a search tool that allow users and potentially recruiters to browse through the users profile according to specific criteria. - Creating an expanding work module that let the user upload presentations, videos, documents or create an image gallery to illustrate their work experience.

Requirements

- Engineering or scientific studies. - Fluency in English. - Rigorous programming skills, the knowledge of a strict object-oriented languages such as C++ is a big asset. - Good knowledge of PHP, JavaScript (jQuery), AJAX and MySQL. Having worked with Github and with Google or Facebook APIs is an asset. - Fast learner, you should be willing to pick up a new programming language if we need it. - Showing flexibility in the work development, you should not be scared to restart part of the project from scratch if we realize there are better ways to go do it. - Being exited about the product, it can be in a critical way of course but you should believe in the potential of our startup. - Dedicated to make the Product better and get users excited about it. - Hard-working, good communicator and having excellent abstraction and critical skills.

To apply please create a profile on http://tyba.com and send us your Tyba site with a cover letter. You can either upload your CV on your Tyba site or send it to us separately.

Thank you for the kind words.

I completely agree, we are constantly working on bringing new features out and one of the upcoming ones (end of next week) will be what we call the "expanded work module" where users upload more types of content for a work experience to go beyond text.

There is still a LOT of work to be done, but we're working hard at it on our end.

Thank you for the feedback!

We make sure we follow sound SEO techniques. Most Tyba sites rank on the first page of Google for the users name within days and often go up to the first result within weeks (since they have more unique content then for instance an About.me page)

We actively try to be more appealing than LinkedIn since our target user is overall younger. Students today are constantly saying "LinkedIn is borring"

We also see users currently including their Tyba site (especially premium members) in their CV, email signature, and on their online profiles.

The users can choose to stick with: tyba.com/theirname or what we see with users whose name is not available they often use a variation e.g. jsmith.com john-smith.com johndsmith.com etc.

Also some users upgrade to a premium plan without a domain name to remove the ads and get access to the themes.

Hi Elliot,

Thank you for your feedback.

To also respond to: ohgodthecat (thank you too!), we've spent a lot of time putting the Tyba sites infront of people working in HR. So far we've mainly received positive feedback about the interface, since it gives them a very quick overview of a person (both the visual elements such as the images and the way we do the layout). However we will take this into account and keep on gathering more feedback. Thank you!

That ad is there to incentivize users to upgrade to our premium plan which is when it disappears, you unlock themes and get yourname.com.

Our startup runs on WP3 and the ability to allow multiple domains. Feel free to email me at eiso@tyba.com or add me on Skype: eisokant. I think I can give you some pointers.

Hi Tom, Thank you for your comment, it is an experiment as much as it is a change in writing style (not based on Kerouac but I understand the reference). It's no longer business writing for others, it's writing I do for myself. I am putting it on my blog for those who are interested.
