This is a great example of the principle of unintended consequences. It's interesting to reflect on whether sperm banks contracts from decades ago give them protection from lawsuits in such cases. It is even unclear the degree 23me are protected. Both policy makers, on the the regulatory side, and lawyers doing risk management, should take a hard look at stories such as this.

Interesting how back then programming was a woman's job and the racial divide between programmers and operators.

These statistics about the dataset are interesting:

~10.4 million tweets (of which ~6 million were original) across 3841 twitter accounts

~1100 YouTube videos across 17 account channels

~116,000 Instagram posts across 133 accounts

~61,500 unique Facebook posts across 81 Pages

There were ~77 million engagements on Facebook, ~187 million engagements on Instagram, and ~73 million engagements on original content on Twitter.

I agree. Even if someone wants to swim against the current and use Python instead of R in these context, it is very hard to do and get publication quality results unless you have plenty of time and really know what you are doing. Since scientists are busy people, it makes sense to just follow the crowd and use R, which is a shame.

Alas, most short ones I find are too long (~10 min). Really short: Stoic Meditations; Le Mot du Jour. Planet Money indicator is longer but still short enough to listen to (1.5 speed...) while shaving.

I've recently become fond short 2-5 minute podcasts as part of my daily routine, which makes me think that a short, 3 minute, daily podcast consisting of one "bumper sticker" plus maybe a little explanation or an example is definitely something someone should produce.

A prescient issue that I think is missing from the archive was the one on the work at Xerox on ubiquitous computing. It stuck in mind my mind when I first read it, and I am reminded of it from time to time when I reach for my iPhone.

What do you think about the following potential additions?

1. "Pursue legislation and regulation to promote these principles across the industry."

2. "Develop or support the development of AI based tools to help combat, alleviate, the dangers noted in the other principles in products developed by other companies and governments."

They should use color coded background on key words, using sentiment analysis. Then you could see the contrast without having to read all the headlines. (Though, "beg" here, for example, is positive, while in most contexts it is probably negative.)
