That feature screws me all the time. I'll load windows to play a game and try to reboot back into linux, and the update kicks off. I always have to force shutdown and just let it update the next time I start it to play a game.

Back in the 90's if you wanted an ohms law calculator you had to go download a poorly written program from some random website. Network admins started locking down what you could download, run, and install due to security problems. Flash became a hit and they started piling on features in the browser so you could run things dynamically without having to download something.
Fast forward almost 30 years and the browser has become so full featured it is practically a weak OS sandbox that allows you to run just about anything. It was originally being extended to avoid that in the first place, and here we are almost back to square one.
New York is at 1.3 percent positive with new cases flatlining. That fits very squarely with what you'd expect to see based on the surveys. Healthy people aren't dying by any significant number based on New York's own published data. The only other one I've seen is MA that has 97.5% deaths with comorbidity. This is a huge overreaction.
They knew within a week or two that the lockdowns had no effect. We converged right to the same level as Sweden. That they kept pushing it is insane.
The serological surveys are showing 50-100x infection rates of those tested. If tested healthy persons are dying at 0.5% that gets you to 0.01%-0.005% death rate in healthy persons. That number is lower than the all cause death rates of 25-34 year olds...
If you read the federalist papers you'll note that the intention was literal, not to be reinterpreted for the times. That also makes the thousands of gun laws illegal. If you start reinterpreting the constitution that is how you go full banana republic, and everyone knows you never go full banana republic. You are supposed to change the law not reinterpret.
Quarantining the sick is legal but otherwise the freedom of assembly clause in the 1st amendment does not say "except when there is a pandemic or other fear". If you don't believe that should be the law fine, but since it is law and is incorporated to the states via the 14th amendment it qualifies as illegal.
According to the New York data, the fatality rate is about 0.5% for tested persons without underlying conditions. Considering the gross selection bias it likely means actual death rates in the healthy population close to that of the flu. It is this data that shows the lockdowns were a complete illegal overreaction. Locking down nursing homes would have fixed most of it.

This is just getting started. Everything is so interconnected. Each chunk of the economy that falls away will have a cascade effect that takes weeks or months to knock the next piece out. Once everyone finally heads back to work it will take years to regrow everything to the point it was.

From my understanding it does something to the virus membrane which then allows a high dose of zinc to actually disrupt the virus. I think the antibiotic component is to suppress risk of a secondary infection due to the suppressant effect.

Technology is deflationary. You get more done with less. Prices should be going down not up. The average steel worker now can produce thousands of times the amount of steel than their counterparts could a hundred years ago, yet they work more hours and receive less purchasing power for their time. Most all of this can be traced to regulations, like fiat currency and patent systems. If we had an honest society not based on grift the average person would be able to work a fraction of the time they have to now to make ends meet, which would let them have massively more free time to pursue what they wanted and may not hate doing some drudge work everyday. When I was a kid you could put yourself through college and rent an apartment delivering pizzas a few nights a week. In the 50's you could work a couple days a month to pay the rent. It is the attempts at social planning that drain the tech gains away from people. Ditch the fiat.

I grew up in the era where the egg lobby had billboards up saying it was OK to eat eggs once a week. This was after cholesterol and saturated fat was demonized after some docs found peoples arteries stuffed with it. It turned out to be fake science. My parents fed me poisonous partially hydrogenated margarine instead of butter because of that crap. They've recently discovered eating cholesterol is of no concern. You don't have to worry about it at all. Inflammation is the real concern. Saturated fats are the safest fats.

1M+ deaths is impossible based on .gov's own numbers. Estmated 100-200k dead. The only way a hospital can help is with ventilators. Everyone else gets the exact same treatment at home or not. If we have a 90% death rate on ventilators than in an absolute worse case 'system overwhelmed' scenario there are 10% more deaths. The idea of millions is laughable, but to be expected from political opinion pieces.
Wrong. Flattening the curve merely delays infections and does not prevent them. It doesn't seem to work well either. It has been good for a 0.5 R-0 drop which points to other primary vectors instead of aerosols. Also it turns out if you need a ventilator you have a 95% death rate, so if the hospitals get overwhelmed the overall death toll won't be too different. If the death toll is anywhere near 100k total we trashed the economy over a bad flu. It would take 6+ months of isolation to beat the virus with quarantine measures, more than long enough to cause a wave of economic related deaths way higher than the virus. People have to get back to work.
At this point I'd only be using ovpn for tcp state caching which is amazing on poor mobile links. You can have your ovpn link resetting every 30 seconds and the tcp connections just continue like nothing happened, and I'd still use it on top of WireGuard.
We paradoxically could have free will and still live in a purely deterministic universe. Even if it is deterministic, we could never do the math to determine the exact state of everything. Our inability to model the universe (without a universe sized computer) means for all intents and purposes we do have free will. Very early in my career I worked for a dev shop that would literally hire 2-3 Indian teams to do the same project in the hopes one would turn out ok and it was still way cheaper than domestic labor. It was during this period I saw the worst code of my life: Pulling every record from a sql database table with a 'select * from table' then a strcmp on each numerical (and indexed) `id` field to find the record. It had worked in testing but blew up in production. It was truly unreal to see that.
