I used to waste tons of time checking man pages for Linux utilities and programs. I always wondered why I had to memorize all those flags, especially when the chances of recalling them correctly were slim.

Not anymore! My brother created this amazing tool: Option-K. https://github.com/zerocorebeta/Option-K

Now, ofc there are people are my office who do not know how i remember all the commands, i don't.

Without AI, this wouldn't be possible. Just imagine asking AI to instantly deliver the exact command you need. As a result, I'm now able to create all the scripts I need 10x faster.

I still remember those stupid bash completion scripts, and trowing through bash history.

Dragging my feet each time i need to use rsync, ffmpeg, or even tar.

The (income) tax base in India is about 5%; they have no voice in the politics of the country unless they are big corps.

Excise on petroleum import affects nearly everyone. I am not only talking about income tax.

Other than this, the soap or detergent or even everyday products we use, contain imported active ingredients and they are taxed at some duty which brings up its price, manufacturer simply adds their own profit margin on top of their costs and passed it onto customers.

Even if most in India have never made payment to customs department, they've still paid considerable sum as indirect duty charged included into product pricing.

If you can just show it to people how much cheaper things will get, they'll give you a chance. This is because Indian voter is very unsophisticated, he will buy your promise atleast once to see if you can really help them by reducing prices.

Excessive taxation on luxury goods is one of the few ways we can still milk the rich

You'll be able to milk rich if there are more mercedes on road, they'll need more repairmen or mechanics, you can be one and charge them for everything.

Right now in India, ultra rich proportionally pay less taxes because of various instruments available to them which aren't feasible to be used by middle class people.

We should shift our focus and let them spend their money, it will end up in one of the countrymen's pocket either way.

As stated in another comment, most of the income taxes / import taxes etc affect a tiny fraction of the population. Not really a huge voter base there. Influential and disproportionately powerful - but not enough to swing elections I think

How can this be true? Nearly everyone needs petrol or diesel or gas, and government has increased exise duty on petroleum import which affects almost everyone in the country!

And custom duties also affect others, today if you go to buy a tool - you'll either find Chinese import or some very expensive foreign make tool or crap Indian make tool in most of the case. People need those tools, they'll benefit from low import duties.

Yes but most people aren't aware how taxes affect them even if they aren't directly paying any custom duty or income tax, custom duty is being charged to them indirectly (they pay for a product where the importer adjusts the price according to costs of which custom duty is a part)

Government have been tweaking excise rates. Petrol and Diesel is cheaper everywhere except India, Indian government made 30% revenue increase in exise during lockdown period when all other taxes went down.

Funny enough, no one in the country raised voice against it.

Fuel is what affects price of everything from grocery to your mobile phone shipped through Amazon, so why is government collecting and increasing this tax on people?

I use amazon India, sometimes I receive broken stuff and I repair it on my own and ask Amazon India if they are willing to refund the part of the sale price.

Recently I had received a dented cooktop and since it was functional and my family isn't too much interested in aesthetics, Amazon offered 30% refund to keep it.

I think I am doing my part to prevent these products from ending up in landfill.

Amazon also honours refund and return request, but not all time I request it.

It's still better than offline shop experience where I've to deal with a real person making weird faces which I find hard to interpret.

I think we don't have a good way to transport energy which makes green energy slightly impractical as the main source of energy.

If we find a way to connect the world on a common electricity grid, we might be able to skip nuclear and go full green (ofc this ignores the cost of producing/disposing those green energy generators)

Sanctions are way to starve the beast.

The beast is the country and the people in power are the ones who control that beast.

If the beast is powerful, the people in power can use the beast to harm other countries.

Is it unfair? Maybe. But what's the alternative? Usually killing the people in power results in power vaccum which destabilises the country and makes the beast go nuclear where there is always more potential for harm, an example of this is Libya.

Invading country isn't seen as good thing to do and installing your favourable party in power is also not seen favourably.

Are there other options? I'd like to know as well.

Here's what happend to me:

Day 1: Fever, chills. I slept under 2 blanket and after 4 hours I started sweating so I threw off all the blankets.

Day 2: Took the test and came out positive but I started feeling good.

Day 3: I completely recovered. Got back to normal just like I was before

Day 4: fever back, wtf?

Day 5: cough started, lost taste

Day 6: Breathing difficulty, feeling pressure on chest

Day 7: joint pain started

Day 8: everything back to normal

Day 9-15: normal

I never lost my sense of smell. I am so sure about it because I was working on a DIY project at home where I was smelling distillate.

I had flu worse than this, if severe flus I experienced in paste were 90/100 then this would be at best 10/100 in severity, pain, discomfort.

I managed to work at home on my projects from my list and ate a lot and drink tons of water and slept peacefully.

Ofc here assumption being made is that college is the deciding factor of success later in life.

Most backward cast candidates will be unable to forge deeper connection with powerful ellite caste people and they'll suffer in networking/connection game.

Education is just one of the many factor, if you don't have connections - you can't get people to believe you or invest in your business, your paper degree isn't going to do much.

Historically, new connections (both social and business) were forged based on marriage which was limited to marrying within specific cast. As a result power accumulated through network effect in hands of a few.

No matter how much education you put in backward cast candidates they are not able to get inside "ellite" network of upper caste people.

I'll give you a counter example, one of my friend dropped out after highschool and another one (backward cast) got degree from IIT university.

Today highschool upper caste person has more wealth and married to a local celebrity while the backward one is at government office and he hates his job, only people he party with are people of his own communities. Many times he's not invited to the private parties by his bosses. On paper tho, you might envy his job but socially tho he's an outcast - it's not changing soon either. He himself acknowledged, he's only boss at work but outside work, no one gives him much respect.

I hate going to physical stores specially the country where I live, the shop agents watch you like a hawk to make sure you aren't shoplifting or using stuff without buying.

Other than this, in local store - shop space is limited so they try to sell you stuff on which they can make maximum profit margin rather than branded quality product.

Many times I head out of the house to buy a big name brands tool or consumable only to be manipulated by the shopkeeper to purchase some local brand crap quality stuff not just that he also went great length to prove how big name brand product is scam when in reality big name company here spends more on advertisement and offers less margin for stocking their products, so local shopkeepers try to not stock them. The product I was buying was epoxy adhesive.

Country is India.

Secondly, the shopowner offered discount to young girl who was before me in a queue but nothing to a young guy or old women either. Who wants this kind of descrimination?

As a result I've stopped going to offline stores and now strictly purchase everything online atleast there is no "obvious and visible" descrimination there.

There are still things in India which can't be bought online for example, I can't buy plwood, MDF nuts and bolts and screws, steel angles, pipes etc... Or any hardware products like expoxy adhesive, plumbing solder, pipe fitting online so I still have to go to some store rather than save money and time and get it delivered to my door.

Or we can speculate the the societies where there is more freedom are taller.

It could also be sexual selection as this stature change is too fast and usually the environment difference takes several hundred generations to show difference.

The timeline is so small I'd argue it's actually free society enabling people to chase their sexual imperitive and this sexual selection is resulting in taller population, not nutrition.

Because many on HN know and consciously recognize the facts here, my question would be: how do you all cope with surveillance?

I also had this "I've nothing to hide instance" - not that I don't have my own nudes on my phone/Google drive/WhatsApp/telegram but because I know there are very corrupt people whoes greed knows no limit.

Surveillance is obviously going to harm my privacy but I am prepared to give it away for greater good atleast the terrorists and other corrupt government officials will not be able to hide behind the privacy which commoners have demanded for themselves.

As a guy who works in B2B supply business.

80% tool and machinery market is owned by China.

We simply can't afford German, US or Taiwan tools/machineries.

And if it's gone, big players will not affected by small players will have major problem. Getting manufacturing permission in India is not easy and very resource intensive.
