I used their platform to work as an on-demand bug fixed for dozens of companies while working on my own schedule. At first, you have to build up relationships with 1:1 development help. It doesn’t take long to become familiar enough with your clients for them to ask you for your help on their trickiest problems.

The biggest issue (and the reason I no longer work there) is that the work is sporadic. Time spent fixing bugs is lost time you could have spent getting new clients, which leads to a sort of boom/bust work schedule.

Anyone who works in automotive manufacturing/pricing: what does the touchscreen/cameras/“smart” part of the vehicle cost? I’d love to buy a “dumb” chassis/motor/battery/interior from Toyota (for example) and plop in a tactile console with a simpler controller. I wonder if there’s a market for something like that at a possibly lower price point.

Did you try clicking the "Disable marketing redirect" button? That removes the redirect.

The thing I made is an opt-in redirect. If you don't want to be redirected from marketing -> app, then you wouldn't click the "Always go to app" button. No content wrapping, no installations, no change in behavior for anyone who doesn't opt in to the redirect. I made it because I often think "I'd like to see how my CI is doing", and then I type "circleci.com", and land on their marketing page instead of the app dashboard at "app.circleci.com".

Yea I agree. For some reason marketing teams love to make the "log in" link tiny, if they include it at all.

I think a nice feature of the thing I made is a button that lets users opt in to the redirect. I agree that it would be bad UX to prevent your paying customers from seeing the marketing page if they wanted to.

On top of the lack of redirect, the login button is tiny

I totally agree - Plaid seems like a good existing but insecure "API" that most people probably don't care that they're giving their login info to.

That last part really blows my mind. You would think that recurring outbound transfers would be totally common right now.

I totally agree that Plaid makes sense, but it frightens me a bit that you have to give your username and password to Plaid.

Read only makes sense. I imagine you would have to go into your settings to enable the API in the first place. The scariest thing for me about the current banking system is that my account + routing number acts like a key that can remove money from my checking account.

I totally agree that most banks have terrible UIs. I think the opensource community could do a much better job. I hadn't thought of notifications but I think it would be great.

These are great ideas! One of my biggest wishes would be to have my transaction and balance histories.

I made a tool to stream ethereum event logs https://www.etherstream.io, and I would love to get some feedback. I've found that it is extremely useful to be able to quickly "tail" logs from particular contracts while developing Dapps. My hope is to get a link on etherscan.io event logs (for example, https://etherscan.io/tx/0x75512fd4151dafce8f5a6b8b406d58f2ce...) so you can jump directly from an individual event log to the stream of those logs.

There are a few rough edges (the front end talks directly to Infura with a key I made with a throwaway email, so this won't be able to handle a huge surge of traffic until I add a backend), but if this project gains some traction, I'll smooth them out.
