As a counterpoint, this essay resonated with me very deeply, and I earn a low salary for an engineer in NYC.

We do fine as a family and have to make compromises I couldn’t have imagined making prior to having kids, but it’s totally worth it.

This type of experience isn’t universal but doesn’t require massive wealth.

This is a _really_ good point! I'm trying to find some data on this right now... might have to dig through e.g. Apple's previous phone releases to see trends over time.

Never heard of it, but looks interesting - thanks for sharing. I probably should've been more clear that after decades of curating my MP3 collection, I've moved towards streaming and rarely dig deep into my library for the ripped tracks that aren't available to stream.

I agree that I should've framed my post better and I appreciate that feedback.

I do understand that iTunes is dealing with a long history of development, and that it has to support lots of use cases that probably explain a lot of the rough edges — I even allude to that in my post.

It's amazing that I can still use my decade-old iPod Shuffle with iTunes at all -- that must be a lot of work. But so much has changed since then, and iTunes as an Apple Music client is a genuinely frustrating experience.

I don't expect software to be perfect. But I want iTunes to be better than it is. I'm paying $10/mo for Apple Music, which actually has an incredible library and editorial playlists... they're just nearly impossible to find.

I'd love to have an amazing Apple Music experience that doesn't also need to manage podcasts, TV shows, audiobooks, and almost 2 decades of music players.

agree, the modals are insane! iOS does better, it's pretty crazy how poorly the desktop has kept up.

Thanks for the feedback— the setup we have is less than ideal. We’re both using a Blue Snowball mic, and I’m recording in the supply closet of my shared office (finding quiet space in NYC is hard, especially with kids at home!)

Going to try switching to a dynamic mic with a tighter pickup pattern, but the one I tried on Amazon from CAD was faulty (crazy buzzing around 1khz), so waiting for the next delivery...

We’ve made more changes:

1) We stopped using the first-person on all emails. We wrote that first-person notification literally 5 years ago when we had a few thousand users, and we never re-visited it. It was pretty stupid. Now they all clearly come from AngelList.

2) We won’t send notifications to companies when you add them to a project. We used to because the project shows up on the company profile too. But it’s not what people expect, so we stopped, and we stopped showing the projects on company profiles too.
