"De-googling" is a spectrum, and I was pretty proud of being farther and farther away (Android and Youtube being the main resistance). But recently, I find myself using Gemini more and more often... I hate that I am more relying on it, but Gemini seems significantly smarter than the other free alternatives for the stuff that I do :(. But Gemini has been extremely helpful for me.

Let me tell you something that does not make money: selling fiction books as an independent author (through physical copies, Kindle ebooks and Kindle Unlimited). Family member is a good writer, has been trying to "make it" for a few years already (published multiple books, has good reviews), and the monthly profit is still not enough to buy a pizza.

I recently had to gift someone some books, so I decided to try B&N online shipping since Amazon sometimes damages books. I ordered 3 books: all 3 came loose in a big box, all 3 were damaged: they looked like used books, unacceptable as a gift. I returned them, they didn't have ship-to-store option (which was what Gemini was telling me to push for), and they sent me new ones: all 3 arrived damaged, again. It turns out, B&N is worse than Amazon: 100% book damage rate on 6 books, worse customer support, worse return policy, worse everything. Enshitification 100%.
I wish there was a version of this website that was simpler, more educated and that I could show to the "normies" who own business and insist on asking me to download their app (I'm looking at you, TKD school!). This one is too aimed at the cooks.

My plan is to learn how to use AI and be proficient with it, so they will be more likely to keep me, as opposed to those who refuse to use it. Some people on my team still refuse to use AI, thinking you can't trust anything since it's all hallucinations.
University is not a competition, others have nothing to do with this? The unfairness here is between me and myself, as I was supposed force myself into doing it in Prolog.

In the Classsic AI course we had to implement gaming AI algorithms (A*, alpha-beta pruning, etc) and in Prolog for one specific assignment. After trying for a while, I got frustrated and asked the teacher if I could do it in Ruby instead. He agreed: he was the kind of person who just couldn't say no, he was too nice for his own good. I still feel bad about it.

The market is not just 3 players. These days we have these things called smartphones, and they all include a variety of different graphics cards on them. And even more devices than just those include decently powerful GPUs as well. If you look at the Contributors section of the extension in the post, and look at all the companies involved, you'll have a better idea.

How do I know their answer is best? I can verify their answers through other means, and I understand both languages enough to realize one answer is more appropriate than the other, even if I can't come up with those words directly using only my brain.

AI has completely killed Google Translate. It is significantly superior in every way.
GT often uses the wrong word or changes the tone of a message. AI always gets the intent right and always seems to use the most appropriate words given the original intent/meaning (or at least something way better than what GT does). And, whenever there is doubt, I can argue with it, so AI is happy to explain the nuances and differences between the possibilities.
Edit: I recently had to send a semi-formal email requesting something from a government employee in a different country (using a language I'm a beginner at), and AI was immensely helpful in getting the right tone (neither informal or too formal) and everything else right. The Google Translate version of what I had originally written was miles and miles and miles worse than what AI helped me craft.

To me the most painful switch was Gnome 2 to Gnome 3. I still miss Gnome 2.
I left Gnome 3 for other WMs (eventually settled on cinnamon), but every once in a while I decided to give Gnome 3 a try, just to be disappointed again. I felt like those people in abusive romantic relationships that keep coming back and divorcing over and over again. "Oh, Gnome has really changed now, he won't beat me again this time!".
systemd was a problem for early adopters (e.g., Fedora). Distros like Debian joined the party later and, as a result, got things way more stable. I never had any systemd-related problem in Debian, while for Fedora (some years earlier) I had some bugs affecting my ability to work. They all seem to work very fine now. Things took a while to mature, but it just works now.

It all started when I bought a stationary bike at C***co with the goal of doing it twice per week for 10 minutes each session. I knew if I had bigger plans, I would end up not doing it.
So after those sessions became routine, I increased to 15 minutes, then 3x per week, then changed from time-based to distance-based, etc. etc. Every time I pushed the boundary and saw myself not doing it anymore, I went back.
Most people would still describe me as sedentary, but I'm already much better than what I was earlier.
I'm quite the opposite: the more light, the better I am (especially now in the northern hemisphere December!). After painting my office walls with a reflective white and putting additional lamps on it, my productivity increased significantly (because the depression I felt inside the office went mostly away!).
In fact, my whole house has this problem: lots of rooms don't have light at the ceiling so I have to keep using these floor lamps that never seem to solve the problem for real, but if I want to add lamps at the ceilings I'll have to break drywalls and repaint everything, so I'm on an never-ending quest to improve lighting at my home.
It's been like this for more than 10 years, there's a good chance it won't change in 10 years.
If WhatsApp does something really bad tomorrow, the population will probably migrate to Telegram very quickly, as it seems to be the 2nd most popular app for the category there.
While WhatsApp is not very much used in the US, in some other countries such as Brazil it is basically the primary form of "phone" communication. It is everyone's default text, voice and video message platform. People don't ask if you have WhatsApp there, they just assume it. You talk to your Bank/Investor manager using WhatsApp. You order pizza through WhatsApp. Customer Support for services is WhatsApp bots that send you to the correct places. If I don't have WhatsApp, I can't voice chat with my mom, she won't see her grandkids. If you have any sort of business, you need WhatsApp.
And yes, I do have Signal installed, and there are only 2 people who talk to me through it (one being my partner).
Phone carriers got too greedy charging for every single SMS message and phone call, WhatsApp took over when smartphones became popular.
