Maybe your parents didn’t teach you empathy when you were growing up, as is so prevalent these days. There are millions of retired people on fixed incomes who bought their homes when they were normally priced. For example, my grandparents bought a house in Los Gatos for $30k in 1969 and now it’s priced at $1.4M. Is that their fault? Why should elderly people, who cannot take the stress of being uprooted and moving, be forced to sell their homes and lose their balance sheet savings in the process? If anything, discounts on capital gains and property taxes should be based on both income and balance sheet apart from real estate ownership. What if that were you?

Basically every US Navy ship with radar constantly records radar data. It would be easy to demonstrate the aircraft’s flight profile to exonerate the ship. Hiding it means they’re hiding the truth.

Incrementalist “hoping” nibbling on the periphery or peaceful change aren’t going to happen because the elites concede nothing (except crumbs) without a fight.

Empathy, shame and the Golden Rule have to be taught.

It’s typical for centuries, if not millennia, that politicians will start external dramas (i.e., wars) as smokescreens to deflect and to distract from internal controversies.

Possibly from a “BETAMAX” features point-of-view, but it’s not as pervasive as WiFi (“VHS”).

My front door lock is Zigbee only because a WiFi camera is its WiFi-to-Zigbee bridge. Everything else is WiFi.

Maybe in the future smart home stuff will convert over, but then it means one company or another will have to sell a bridge and be the gatekeeper. Perhaps the home/ISP-provided access points should include Z-Wave / Zigbee that is open to provision and configure from FAANG’s and smart home products?

Using higher GHz is all about selling more hardware.

Let’s use 500 GHz so you have to have one in ever corner of every room to work. And don’t breathe or take a shower because that will block the signal.

I worked briefly in the radio group at Trimble Nav Ltd. around the DotCom times.

900 MHz and VHF CB bands didn’t have great channel bandwidth but sure worked well at a distance. 2.4 GHz was marginal but useful just like as it’s used for WiFi. 5+ GHz is/was basically useless... and 802.11/A proved that out. GPS and other satnavs use the L-band 1.2 - 1.6 GHz which is a very sweet spot for many applications. Cell phones use/used 450, 800 MHz through L-bands, which makes sense.

5G is being deployed in bands (24 - 71 GHz) that are implicitly trying to sell as much equipment making the deployment as expensive as possible and/or going to waste an enormous amount of energy trying to overcompensate for their horrible spectrum utilization. I predict 5G will die, not because of unfounded conspiracy theories, but because carriers will realize it’s too expensive and users will balk at $400 USD mobile bills to fund this pointless adventure. I suspect they’ll be forced to redo or abandon the emperor’s new clothes when they’re discovered to not be a substitute for a winter coat.

That sounds like a personal problem in need of a cold shower IYAM. Be the change you seek by getting ISVs/OEMs/ODMs to launch an orgy of compatible hardware to simultaneous release peripherals to stick them with. This is true. The hardest people on the poor, who are in favor of cutting welfare, are the almost poor. Which is why they shouldn’t be listened to and why leaders need to lead.

Another motivating aspect is that it’s “easier” to attack and defeat a nearly equal rival than it is to defeat a much stronger enemy. For example, people attack the weaker and poorer than themselves much more readily than they attack their actual common enemy: the very rich. Instead, most people are bitterly divided-and-conquered, ensconced in their separate, partisan echo-chambers, accomplishing nothing. This is not to say adversarial partisanship doesn’t have its place: two or more strong parties function as countervailing powers to prevent either from gaining an upper hand. These days however, when corruption is too extreme and too hedged, the major parties become different flavors of tools of the rich.

Furthermore, when the established order appears weak or imploding, people tend to move more naturally to the extremes of right and left, seeking utopian solutions and populist demagogues.

What’s this means is that Marx was, inconveniently, correct about reality of concentrated wealth and greed’s externalities but subsequent splintering factions that developed in the 19th and early 20th centuries weren’t necessarily correct about the prescriptions. These days people must realize that “a house divided cannot stand” and that vampiric billionaires have bought most governments and mass media to such an extent that they are extincting species at an incredible rate, doubling-down on climate change and causing a widening gulf of inequality that hasn’t been seen in a century. People who are relatively comfortable or are in destructive industries will do everything to reinforce their cognitive dissonance and destroy those who challenge them with inconvenient reality.
