Outsourcing of software dev to India and support to Latin America. Paying pennies and charging high fees. They get contracts to all sorts of big companies like telecoms and manufacturers

Also unemployed for the last 3 years after a layoff. Partially on purpose because I felt I needed a pause to recharge but I kept extending because money was not a problem due to stonks going up.

I learned react, go. Played videogames and had a child. Things are going well.

Part of me is afraid that too much time off the market will make me not fit for the workforce anymore but tbh I feel like my mental health really needed this.

Now I'm faced with a dilemma. Go back to my home country where I probably could retire now at 40 or stay here and try to get back to work. Trump administration has been making my decision easier by the day.

Pixel phones are rarely full price. Right now you can get it on Google Fi for $450.

They run promos around the clock. iPhones OTOH are never discounted.

First Windsurf and now this. OpenAI is spending billions like there's nothing else to use this money for while being seemingly cash strapped for model training since they already signaled more investment rounds would be needed to remain competitive. They're trying to become too big to fail before they have a moat which won't work well.

I think this is actually the best way to zero an array in place. The other option is using foo.splice(0,foo.length)

foo = []; Will reassign the reference but other pointers can still have the array.

foo.length=1 will remove all elements but the first.

As someone that grew up in a Latin America country watching dubbed movies my whole life I welcome this technology. Dubbed movies are usually terrible with subpar performances and recycled voices.

It sucks it will kill a large field for actors, but AI has the capacity to be much better with voices and performances that mimic the actors.

I needed a machine just to sketch some UIs in figma. I was going to get a Chromebook but my wife insisted on the iPad.

I thought it could sure handle that use case, I quickly checked there was a figma app. I was expecting some quirks.

A day later I returned it. Turns out that figma app for iPad can only "view" designs, not create them!

I feel like there's a very narrow market for iPads. I'm surprised they still sell.

No they haven't. Fortnight has an ingane currency and someone just launched a crypto with the same name that is not affiliated to epic games. This is a scam trying to pretend it's a somewhat legitimate coin, if you still believe in these.

More and more I find code like this. When you dig into an interesting aspect it's just an llm call. I haven't decided yet if it's good or bad. But it does seem to work a most of the time.

The problem is that we're used to code that works all the time or none of the time. With LLMs you can't know if it's right for sure and it's really hard to check.

That may be true for a lot of people. But no matter how much you hate a specific company this just isn't true for most people.

For me personally it would be an immense boost to morale. Getting any offer would boost morale but a top tier tech company is the Pinnacle.
