Liquidity to investors and employees.
That would be a book I would read.
There is one focused on something like this, called Fitness for geeks. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007UQN22A/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?...
Gold as a commodity (bonds). Gold bars are not liquid.
There are another cases like these?
I've spent 3 years as an associate in a VC firm. I graduated in computer engineering. And I was invited by the CEO of a rapid growing company (www.inlocomedia.com) to be a product manager of their new Data products.
I think the tech background is important, but the most important thing is to be able to talk to all stakeholders. As a product manager you will have many interfaces with marketing, management, operations, biz dev, and your team (the engineers). You have to be able to communicate well with everybody and provide context and value.
By their official numbers, they have 1,18 Bi DAUs and 1,7 Bi MAUs.
If somebody dies, they won't be counted as a DAU anymore and in on month won't be counted as a MAU.
More numbers in their Q3 earnings reports: https://investor.fb.com/investor-news/press-release-details/...
You are missing the real statistics. Only 11% of all apple revenues come from services (app store, Icloud, itunes).
apple makes money from selling phones and computers. If you want to sell a $1,799 notebook (or even $2,399 for the 15 inch version), they need to think on power users.

Thanks for Crash Bandicoot.
How did you go from games to developing airlines reservation and fares software?
Maybe a merge with Valve. So they will become the platform to build and to sell the games. They will have all the developers and resources on the game development world.
If George Hotz came in HN and asked about the feasability of doing a self driving car by himself, people would say the same thing, tell him that was impossible. Lucky for us he neither asked HN if he could hack the iphone or the playstation 3 because if he did he could be desencouraged.
Anyway, geohot built a self-driving car and received investment from a16z to hire more people and expand it further. http://www.bloomberg.com/features/2015-george-hotz-self-driv...
My advice to you is study really hard and make it happen. use other people work to leverage your software and go faster. And after that show me and the others what have you made.
Tumblr is what you want to see. For me you is porn, for my girlfriend was mostly Benedict Cumberbatch and Harry Potter gifs.
I'm an Engineer working in finance and a couple of my medical doctor friends refer to me as the 'inteligent' in the group.
Thats amazing! Ik12 was already known as the "ycombinator of edtech". Joining forces will help both sides to thrive.
Congratulations to the team!
You can send to him "The Phatom Edit" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Phantom_Edit. It is already widespread all over the internet (even in youtube) and has the same objetive of your edition (Jar Jar binks is gone as well).
If you live in another country, you already have a problem. Books are not universally avalable and are many times banned or censured.
ebooks make it easier to turn this around. Digital media is reliable, easy to transport and distribute.
I agree, but for different reasons.
I think the author (or his friend at least) entered in the event to test his Speculative Stock Warrant. (It is a ways to get a small kick-back if startup goes big 10 years later) So he already entered in the event to only get an shadow option of a potential good company.
He complained that Billy did not valued enough their weekend hacking and put an outside parter in the company. But he already only had 0.4%. If I was Billy I wouldn't think of someone who had this kind of deal with me as a cofounder.
I think it would be easier to get all these LP's, make a big fund and make follow-on investiment in all of companies portfolio.
better than a LP investing direct in a early-stage startup. This is bad for both, the startups gets an unexperienced investor and the LP don't get to manage portfolio the right way.
We always put a new CFO in the company. But non of them are from the VC firm.
This method you talk about is way more commom on large deal, like Private Equity, LBO, etc. Those companies make 2 to 4 deals a year. 10-15 deals isn't a small number of deals.
Usually and investor makes a Due Diligence in the company. Depending on the stage of the company, investor profile, this due diligence can be a formal one, where you hire external auditors to make the process or in a more early-stage phase you can do VC firm (or angel) makes the due diligence themselves.
Either way, at least in Brazilian Law (I work with VC in Brazil, but I imagine there is something similiar in USA), we have a "Hidden Liabilities" clause in our termsheet. It says that anything prior to the investors investiment is liable to the founders only.
You are probably joking, but to get more perspective on this 'blue' color, there is a great resource:

We may never know for sure, but one peculiar fact casts the mystery in an interesting light: there is no word for “blue” in ancient Greek.
Homer’s descriptions of color in The Iliad and The Odyssey, taken literally, paint an almost psychedelic landscape: in addition to the sea, sheep were also the color of wine; honey was green, as were the fear-filled faces of men; and the sky is often described as bronze.
It gets stranger. Not only was Homer’s palette limited to only five colors (metallics, black, white, yellow-green, and red), but a prominent philosopher even centuries later, Empedocles, believed that all color was limited to four categories: white/light, dark/black, red, and yellow. Xenophanes, another philosopher, described the rainbow as having but three bands of color: porphyra (dark purple), khloros, and erythros (red).

That is a high multiple for a company that sell physical goods.
One other funny story about him is that he was sent to cover the historical "Rumble in the Jungle" Muhammad Ali vs Frasier fight but he "chose to float in his hotel pool, a bottle of hooch in hand, while the great fight took place, and he was unable to file anything."

If you are a investor in the company you usally don't get paid, just your trip expenses.
If you are an external member, somebody strategic to the company, you get paid either by meeting or some shares. Usually all board members in public companies are paid with cash.
This is not what The New Yorker tries to do. It's a different type of journalism. It do not worry about the lenghs of its articles.
Not trying to doubt you, but can you tell me in what tasks Ai has been more accurate than doctos?
Look for BRCA1 and BRCA2 genetic testing and therapy.
VC's are different type of partners. The VC's need to sell their shares in the end of a fund.
VCs have their investors too, the LPs, and they need to have liquidity to sell their shares and take the profit. If you don't give liquidation preferences or drag and tag-along rights to VCs will not be able to sell and make any profit if the fund is about to close.
