I was confused by that too, but then I thought maybe the new replacement was commenting that using javascript in the app would provide more work for contractors, which he perceives as a good thing. So not using javascript provides less work. I could be wrong though.
For me, the central entity of "social media" is a person or personality.
The central entity of forums, such as HN or Reddit, is topics.
Sometimes there is crossover between the two types of entities, and of course there are exceptions to the rule, but I find it to be a useful way to discern what is social media and what isn't.
Remember when Fox was sued by the voting machine company for libel (or slander, can't remember which), after Fox supported and broadcast claims that the machines were rigged against Trump in 2020, and Fox argued that nobody should take what they say seriously, because they're merely entertainment.
I noticed this on Safari, but when I switched to Chrome it seemed fine.
It's wild to me that at 83 years of age, he still wants to do gigs like this. Pretty sure he doesn't need the money.
My 11 year old son plays Fortnite almost daily. He plays other games too but Fortnite is what he plays with his friends online.
In our current system, the only defenses against corruption:
- Standards and norms, which obviously the current administration doesn't give a rat's ass about
- Failing that, Congress has to step in and impeach and convict. This won't happen because the Republicans have completely rolled over
So, here we are.

I quite literally couldn't stay awake for Andor. Five minutes into each episode I was out cold. Saying it's a "slow burn" is quite the understatement.
For the Fox News crowd, which is most of his supporters, they are likely not even aware of these transgressions, as they are not reported there. Or, if they are aware, they are happy to see Trump enriching himself, because, own the libs or something?
It's the job of the Congress to hold the executive branch accountable, with the ultimate endpoint being impeachment and removal if necessary. Unfortunately, the Senate republicans are completely sold out to the cult of Trump so there will be no relief from that quarter.
I haven't checked on this in a long time, but IIRC, the insurance company will always blame the person in back in a rear-end collision, for just this reason. A rear-end collision should always be avoidable.
AI doesn't "want to" control air traffic. It doesn't have any desire or ambition. That's what the humans are for.
It is merely a tool like a hammer. The hammer doesn't build the house, it is the human who wields the hammer that builds the house.
We've noticed this in our neighborhood. Once a year we host a few families before going out trick or treating with our kids. We buy a bunch of pizza so everyone can eat and don't ask for the other families to kick in.
We were hoping the other families would reciprocate, and maybe invite us to some of their gatherings (especially two families who hang out together quite a bit.) So far it hasn't happened at all, they just receive our graciousness and move on immediately.
I guess then, that he is relying on his customers not discovering that there are options out there that will do this for them, without a "middle man" as it were. Seems like shaky ground to be standing on, but I suppose it can work for a while, if he already has good relationships in his industry.
Waymo is doing very well around San Francisco, which is certainly very challenging city driving. Yes, it doesn't snow there. Maybe areas with winter storms will never have autonomous vehicles. That doesn't mean there isn't a lot of utility created even now.
Seeing images like that are always a good reminder that LLM's don't actually "know" anything.
Bit of an aside but that site is truly awesome. Good to see some real design chops out there. I could browse those fonts for hours.
I had a colleague who I sensed was giving me the cold shoulder. Just kind of cutting off attempts at friendly conversation, whereas before our relationship had been fine.
As the author suggests, instead of just letting it fester, I caught him at an opportune moment and asked him if I had done anything to upset him (I suspected maybe a not-tactful-enough code review may have been the culprit.) He just denied that anything was wrong, other than that he wasn't sure how to relate to me because our circumstances are so different (I'm quite a bit older than him and have a family, although it hadn't been a problem before.)
Unfortunately this interaction just made our relationship even more awkward, and it never recovered. He ended up leaving the company about six months later.
In summation, simply getting things out in the open is not necessarily the cure-all the author suggests it is.
As another data point, my son was 5 when the lockdowns hit and missed the end of his kindergarten year and the entirety of first grade. He's doing fine.
My daughter was 18 months and went back to preschool at age three. She's also doing fine.
In fact I don't know any of their peer group who I would consider to be "having a terrible time adjusting to school and normal social interaction" which could be directly tied to Covid. There were some kids who had already been identified as having developmental challenges, and that hasn't changed.
It looks like it's using an LLM agent to do the actual work of editing the site.
99% of users of FB would never hear of this extension, nor know what to do with an extension, nor care to even consider that they could improve their experience.
Also the typeface, kerning and line heights are a bit - unconventional, which doesn't help the readability

Can you seriously deny that it will take many fewer developers using LLMs to do what was done without LLMs? Many if not most software companies have either greatly slowed hiring, or laid off tranches of developers.
Not all developer jobs will disappear, but there will most certainly be fewer available. Any new grad can tell you how hard it is to find a software engineering job nowadays.
Certainly we cannot just let an AI spin and build software unattended. But what used to take days can now be done in minutes.
I was struggling with this too - maybe it means that at compile time, it just flags those nodes in the tree that might become dirty due to state changes, and ignores the rest.
I think it's a pretty common writing technique to start out with a personal anecdote, so the reader feels like they can relate to the person writing the story. Maybe this particular one didn't draw you in.
On the other hand, I'd posit that you're much less likely to feel motivated if your desk is messy.
I call this the "Wall of Inertia." Before you walk up to it and face it, it feels 10 feet tall, but once you actually just take it on, it only turned out to be 6 inches tall and you can easily hop over it.
But it feeling 10 feet tall is enough to make you avoid it entirely for a long time.
That doesn't really work for important things like going to the dentist, keeping healthy etc. The downside of just not doing those things is enormous.
