Principle Studios | Remote | Senior Software Engineer, Mid-level Software Engineer, Engineering Manager | https://principlestudios.com/careers/

Principle was created as a lifestyle design and technology consultancy. Its goal is to prove that caring for our customer’s needs, caring for our community and caring for our team’s well-being are not mutually exclusive.

I'm the Director of Engineering at Principle, and we're looking to hire a number of senior and mid-level engineers to join our team! We have the opportunity to work with a variety of technologies, and right now we are hiring people with a depth of experience in React, C#, and/or managing engineers. This is the best, most talented, and friendliest team I've worked with - we're growing, and I'm excited to bring more people into our culture of excellence without the exhaustion and burnout so prevalent in our industry.

Excellent benefits include: 401k matching, unlimited PTO, profit sharing, company-covered insurance, and stipends for home office, training, and fitness.

We're fully remote - if you're a US citizen/permanent resident and can do US timezone hours, you can work wherever you want!

Not just that - monastics practice 'prayer without ceasing', hesychasm.

There's a great book "The Way of the Pilgrim" that explores a man's journey to discover what 'prayer without ceasing' means and how it could be possible.

There's also a monastery that was called 'the unsleeping ones' where they divided the hours of the day into shifts and had monastics in prayers throughout the day and night continuously.

I really like this and how it explained current events re: NFTs.

But then I read this paragraph and it's so incorrect that I can't trust the rest of the article:

... One thing that I like to think about short selling is that it creates new shares of a company, and to some extent those shares compete with the shares issued by the company. If you short a bunch of oil-company stock, someone who wants to buy oil-company stock might buy it from you instead of from the company. In the limit, if enough people embrace the idea of shorting oil stocks, they will crowd out the oil companies; it will be impossible to finance oil drilling because any money you put into oil stocks will go to short sellers, not drilling.

The rate of steam generation can't be controlled in the same way as electricity, no? As I think about it, I suppose electricity generation also can depend on large amounts of moving water - maybe it would work by having extra capacity that is 'bled off' when not needed.

And editable! Last time I drew a sequence diagram on a whiteboard I instinctively tried to drag and drop a box to another location. I was sorely disappointed.

The important distinction is that Project Dragonfly was being built to serve a single customer and purpose, both of which employees were not comfortable with. GitHub is built to serve any customer and has a defined purpose that is generally useful. Employees are now uncomfortable with their generally useful tool being used as intended by a customer they do not approve of.

It's not really an apples to apples comparison.

Yes, because there are more factors than the treatment itself, and it is important to be able to ascribe benefit/harm to the treatment vs. the other factors.

As mentioned in another comment, the sad state of Alzheimers patient care today includes infrequent attention. It is plausible that two visits from another human each day would in itself cause the same kind of improvement seen in the study.

Without a control group, it is impossible to ascribe the results to the treatment or the other aspects of the study.
