I am glad there is some viable disruption in the auto space here, but I am also really disappointed.

From what I gather you fear determinate systems will guide future Nixos dev like google steers chromium or am I way off base?
Have you been defining them directly in your flake.nix file? I too am on nixos but I keep all my configurations in their native format and symlink them with nix, that way I can take and reuse that config on a non nixos system easily.
The problem I have found is that nixos doesn't seem to pickup and run systemd timers and services placed into the ~/.config/systems/user folder and additionally things like WantedBy=default.target have no effect.
So after I restart all my services manually on reboot I agree, systems timers are cool.
You think our prison system is much better? I mean hell, we're currently shipping people off to prison camps in other countries without due process.

The "that there were other children, a crossing guard, and several double-parked vehicles in the vicinity" means that waymo is driving recklessly by obeying the speed limit here (assuming it was 20mph) in a way that many humans would not.
They make little sense on any road though.
A camera doesn't stop those acts though, it may only discourage those who know about it at a huge cost of privacy and rights.
How about we build better infrastructure and regulate vehicles since those do actually stop this behavior. Most of those red lights and stoplights in the US should be roundabouts. Narrower lanes and other traffic calming measures should be much more pervasive. Vehicle size, specifically bumper height is out of control.
Compare US traffic and pedestrian deaths to the rest of the world, or at least a lot of EU countries. Its embarrassing.
I was all for this legislation, thinking the positives outweighed the cost, but after reading the list of affected services, I now disagree.
Why didn't they just legislate that all social media apps content must be like Facebook in 2005. No recommendations, chronological timeline only, and you only see posts from users you explicitly added. That would have benefited everyone forever, and not enabled some small subset of apps to collect your govt id or the law to be irrelevant when the next popular social network comes along.
They effectively banned only the popular cigarette brands, instead of regulating nicotine.
If services would argue this would make them all the same, then add a clause where the user can opt in to have an algorithm shove content at them like now if they are over 18.
This way everyone can use the basic service for true socializing, but the harmful stuff is actually regulated out by default.
Too much money etc for this to ever happen, but geez they could have done a lot better.
I wish there was regulation that you have to sell and maintain a working product, so that open source devs don't have to waste their time fixing proprietary products.
Likewise on all downward business signals at my employer. I was thankfully in school during 09, but this easily feels like the biggest house of cards I have ever experienced as an adult.
I don't think tax is that high for that income bracket but your point still stands for the rules of the current system. I agree with your sentiment there are way better ways to redistribute wealth.

Heck annual social security average is 24k a year, so you are talking about nearly 4% more money for just those people alone.
How does it make sense? If I buy a book I'm entitled to rip out pages and black marker words. What's the difference to removing text or images of my choice while viewing a website?

Jokes aside, a true agi would displace literally every job over time. Once agi + robot exists, what is the purpose for people anymore. That's the doom, mass societal existentialism. Probably worse than if aliens landed on earth.
Once self driving cars take over and fill the streets with gridlock autonomous traffic, the only way to get around in a city is going to be by bike.
Its great to here their algorithms are good for cyclists, a better solution is to keep investing in infrastructure that separates cyclists completely from cars.

500 manually driven cars and 500 robocars take the same space. Building schools, cities, and communities in the US that are pedestrian based is the only real solution. The author summarizes as "We need to thicken up our places, slow down cars, and install pedestrian or biking infrastructure" which I couldn't agree with more.
You don't need a non biased website to tell you that. Goods costing %25 more affects the low income folks way more.
Think about it this way, eggs go from $3 to $10. Someone with high income is barely affected. If you make min wage at $7 an hour its a huge burden.
Are the developers on Chrome or Safari not anonymous to you as well? Or basically every piece of software that you did not author yourself?
I still prefer to shield my domain and inboxes. Probably a silly exercise, but I like knowing that no one can spam my true inbox or domain as its never given out.
Customer for a few years now. I don't do anything fancy with it. It was the cheapest and most appealing option for a custom domain for personal email. I think it runs me ~$11 a year or something
I combine it with simplelogin to handle all my aliasing needs.
