I don't want unification so much as the ability to run full macOS off of my phone when docked to a display. It is a simple request on the face of it and Apple is about the experience and hiding complexity, so even if it is hard to implement, once the hardware is capable (and it has been for a while) this is arguably a very nice feature to have for many.

To her point on fitness, even if I know exactly how much I'm doing and whether or not I'm in shape I actually do want something unobtrusive recording my vitals so that I can have a baseline in the future to compare against in case something truly is wrong, especially knowing what factors have changed over time and maybe being able to correlate them.

This is the first time you could install apps on your device without paying for a membership. Previously you could design and test through a simulator for free, now he can build and actually use his app without paying extra as he isn't distributing.

I'm interested in finding out what kind of inter-car communication these companies are considering; direct reports from cars on the scene as well as official beacons that cars can subscribe to along highways and in cities.

I think that's the issue though, hard to compete with getting it all for free without any lawyers or needing to even ask, especially when you are a paying customer. It will take time but with the source for Unreal being on GitHub it has the potential of becoming an actual "open" standard of sorts given how much the community can contribute back. It also makes it a greater platform for experimentation for universities and students in addition to smaller shops that can't afford to license it. Usually when a company says that the source can be negotiated separately the price is of the form of: "if you have to ask..."

One day they'll probably let you enter your user id and password to get it started then scan your fingerprint on a device to confirm. Why not?

I would guess 0. My understanding is that you are rendering at the full higher resolution then simply computing the proper subpixels on the offset displays to align them right. You still need all the data there using the full amount of memory otherwise you can't really perform the calculations necessary for the subpixel/temporal interpolation.

It would be interesting to see what the impact would be in a more limited context as you suggest. Also, having it as part of a toolkit would lessen the burden and allow for continuous optimization. Exciting times!

Wouldn't that be too taxing on battery life? I'd rather have WebGL used for 3D games or visualizations where I at least know the impact beforehand rather than like flash or as a CSS animation alternative.

I would love to see this with a giant screen. The iPad is great but kids needs space and room to play. Great start and I really feel that things like this will have a great impact in the future.

Where has this been all these years? No idea if this project works (depends on a local Mac so that ruins it for me), but it kills me that we can AirPlay to TV's and run high resolution with bluetooth keyboard/mouse hookup and still we can't develop on our iPhone/iPad?

I think this is a great move, but why not enhance the run dialog so it works like Spotlight does on OSX: minimal, you type and it automatically searches. I like the start menu because its smaller than the start screen, but I prefer my launcher to be as tiny and powerful as possible without fullscreen flashing. Also, it lets me use the launcher to type in things that I can see from other windows, eg: calculations, paths, etc...

Exactly, except Microsoft has taken it to the logical conclusion we all want supporting all platforms, and sadly Apple hasn't. I have code that runs on both iPhone/iPad and shares most of it with the Mac version yet I have to build the Mac as a separate app and submit to a different store. That sucks.

Buy both if you're a developer. If you're a consumer and have money to burn then buy both, otherwise wait for the 2nd dev kit/consumer version. As a developer it is one of the most exciting platforms to work on and watch your creations come to life.

Don't forget their COO is Laird Malamed who helped with the Guitar Hero hardware. They have already been able to do the right thing with their initial batches and it looks like this is the right step forward for mass-producing the hardware for the consumer version.
