Many of us ham radio operators can hear morse at pretty high speeds but I remember being on a bus with a friend who was well known for being the best of the best. He was staring at an ad for the longest time before I interrupted him to ask why.

Just the opposite. I find all that distracting. My hands never leave the keyboard. The mouse is a nuisance. I'm far more productive without all the GUI crap.

You can do that on Google+ too but with the privacy of not letting certain "circles" know things you don't want them to know or it's irrelevant.

You still can. My company, for instance, has but two investors holding all company stock. My wife and me. If we wished, we could sell a portion of our company to others even though it is not publicly traded. Privately held companies like ours can still sell portions of their company to other investors, or even take investment capital without selling private stock.

While Google makes the news on this, everyone loves to forget every marketing firm in the world has been collecting exactly the same data on them since the stone age.

And being able to collect the data about them to serve better results is a business decision. Some may like or dislike it's done that way but it's no different than liking/disliking any product you use now.

A lot of people here are running away from what Wheaton is actually saying and this is all he's saying:

Reading through that, it shows the writer has no clue how entertainment is created. It looks like he feels it can be manufactured by anyone with a slight interest in the subject. I doubt anyone here, save @Keyframe, has ever been on a set to see the hundreds involved at every skill level to put together a motion picture. Or the large group needed to put together any TV show.

Kill Hollywood? That's like saying kill Silicon Valley. And equally as stupid.

There's a reason why there are hundreds of out of work writers. Good scripts are hard to write, as is good music. If you think a million monkeys can do better, think again.

As you know, though, the cost of film and development is hardly worth talking about, particularly in big budget motion pictures. Shooting video, nowadays, is a convenience mostly. The cameras are far more expensive, as is the support equipment, but transmitting completed video and editing is far cleaner.

Following the tweets through one service, I mostly saw pissed off college students with papers due within hours who lambasted Wikipedia for doing this.
