IMO, Leaked is probably the better word here. Equifax did not steal the data in the first place either, they recorded/copied it from other sources which leaked or sold it to them.

Sorry, I could have been more clear. Brave is a browser with a feature called Shield, an anti-tracking feature, a click of the icon disables it/reloads page. So my workflow is up to 3 clicks if I just want to disable everything, which I do when I'm in a hurry sometimes.

I'm switching back to an android phone, mostly for a better browsing experience, so I'll try Firefox/NoScript+uBO combo. I'm using uMatrix everywhere else(except on iOS) but no uBO, I thought uMatrix covered everything uBO does but I guess not so I'll try both.

Also, I believe some versions of nightly Firefox (on mobile) can support uMatrix, IIRC.

This is such an important point. The PATRIOT Act threw protections for citizens out the window in cases of terrorism (no evidence required). DOD requires no trials, no warrants, only notifying judges with an accompanying gag-order and no input or oversight from them (making it illegal for them to divulge suspected abuses) to wiretap or kill anyone. President Obama used a drone strike to explode a 16 y/o boy (a US citizen) in Yemen[0]. This is only one of the cases we know about, and it’s impossible to know the extent it’s been used. I know that’s not the case here, but it is such a huge problem that needs to be fixed legislatively - I felt it necessary to comment.

This is a topic that will likely be in our discussions going forward considering the former US president has so many outstanding charges against him. But that’s a much stickier situation than just a defendants rights to free speech, considering he’s also the leading Republican candidate for 2024 and the situation is largely unprecedented.

They do. But courts can set bail conditions and actions that explicitly ‘shall not be infringed’ can seemingly be infringed upon by those conditions. Judge ruled his actions violated those conditions and changed the terms of his pre-trial detention to be in a public correctional facility instead of at home.

He will appeal and the courts can decide if his rights are being infringed. If he was already locked up and had someone release this info, I doubt the judge would have charged him with witness tampering or intimidation over this, maybe would have warned him. Judge here just revoked his pre-trial bond/changed those conditions, which is within the judges power to do.

old.reddit.com was 10 requests, 5kB transferred, 9kB resources I tried mbasic.facebook.com and interestingly it was (not logged in) only 1 request 1.1kB transferred, 1.1kB resources

I turned off any browser level blocking, but I do have some network level ad-blocking. I wonder why you get 111 more requests for (www.)reddit.com than I do.

Those(mbasic.facebook, old.reddit) are the old/basic interfaces I use regularly and both are requirements for me, I won't use their normal websites or apps so if they get shutdown I would leave for good.

Drinking tend to make a lot of people more sociable, and enjoy talking to others. By going to a bar where others are also drinking you have a place where there will be similarly extra-sociable-from-drinking people to interact with. If you’ve ever had a friend or family member who likes to call and talk whenever they are drinking and you are sober and find the conversation trying - you can understand the draw a social atmosphere where (most) everyone will be drinking.

As you alluded to further down, if it is not illegal for people to publish a photograph of their ballot or a recording of their vote submission - then they can be coerced into doing just that. The idea of a secret ballot providing systemic protection against coercive influence only really works by requiring all ballots to be cast in secret, in my opinion.

You are certainly not alone in the opinion that allowing ballot photographs to be made public is a big mistake, and maybe it will prove to be.

The citizens making a show of force toward voters is concerning, and I wish things were more civil and less partisan… but indeed, tensions have been escalating for several years.

Even if it is an unfounded belief and evidenced of outcome changing election fraud doesn’t exist, a growing minority of citizens losing confidence and loudly calling into question the integrity of elections is a very dangerous development.

In recent elections, election administrators on both sides of the aisle from several states have displayed incompetent failures to follow electoral processes that are designed to ensure transparency and fulfill audit requirements. This, of course, only makes matters worse. I hope it’s mostly online sensationalism and this sentiment will be quelled… bc when significant minorities of a population start to dispute the authority of leadership, stricter authoritarianism tends to be the government response, which tends to lead toward civil unrest and violent events. I share the concerns you warn about.
