AnyRoad is building the first ERM (Experience Relationship Management) platform which empowers enterprises by enabling them to turn real-life, customer experiences into useful data and analytics. Agree and would love Rails to take this further. Rails is still very useful - and is certainly used by countless startups along with React. CRUD plus a smart redux/mobx scaffold of some sort. Or auto graphql-ify.

The goal is still the same - get up and running with an idea as fast as possible while not being cornered - scaling with the product. The FE has simply become where most of the effort and innovation is now. Rails will benefit from helping on that side of the coin.

The concept expressed in the title matches a desire. Looking forward to checking out and hearing other's experiences.

I like the thumbnails - but I'd like them more if they were a toggle on/off or avail perhaps on hover - so we can also have the succinct list view that makes consuming and grokking more efficient.

Thanks for the reply. Yea the rails asset pipeline integration seems an issue and Vue hot reload capability is also something I'd want workings seamlessly (not sure if that would be problematuc). Perhaps best to just use rails as API server. Then be able to create complete Vue front without struggling w integrations.

I am always looking for the fastest way to build a complete app. Brought me to Rails. Then to Meteor/React (which was mixed). Then some Rails/React which is ok.

Vue looks really appealing on the simplicity and completeness side.

I would like to know from people using Vue what backends you're using. In order to complete the loop - the simplest stack overall Vue+???.

I would say they're most likely not rewritten - in the sense that each new one gets to look at and improve upon the predecessors. So they're not starting from scratch and that is leading to better quality I think.

Strongly suggest looking beyond this if your concern about Angular is that it is returning us to an old approach. Angular, on the contrary, in my experience, is a broadly conceived vision of how to rethink and move browser development significantly forward. I have been waiting for something like this. The key part of that ng-click is that it's an Angular 'directive'. I recommend adding AngularJs to your app to do a simple experiment of writing a few directives of your own; see if that doesn't light a bulb.

that the author and so many others here are describing fantastic learning experiences suggest to me the word "impose" might be a little off.

even though you don't talk to or engage with people, the experience does not ring of aloneness actually. i felt incredibly connected to other participants and at the end when you begin talking again, there's a wonderful sense of camaraderie. made a bunch of new friends.

thanks! ...but let me clarify. book learning is utterly awesome!! when i say "resolving issues"... i mean purely the personal, subjective, 'worrisome' kind... the endless spinning narratives we struggle within. the attachment to solving issues these through out-thinking the anxiety: this process got deprecated ;)

i have recently done the 10 day course and it was one of the best things i have ever experienced. have continued meditating (near) every day because it keeps me returning to a sense of deep calm and focus and enjoyment – feelings prior far more rare even tho i would have described myself as happy and digging life. the new digging is at a deeper level and much of what i used to perseverate upon seems reduced in import by orders of magnitude. practically the whole notion of "intellect figuring out and resolving issues", seems now completely a misguided process. returning to the state of calm fertilizes better thought which crowds out the worries. worry process becomes reduced and unmasked when it arises. the whole physical reaction cycle different. awareness that how we feel (and happiness) is in our bodies – we know the value of physical exercise. this is similar. a rigorous training that just starts doing what it's advertised to do. veritably mind blowing, yep.

I'd like to see a well researched, estimated total national/international cost to the industry for support of IE.

I like this only that it does not somehow capture the aspects of 'crowd sourced' that suggest that certain content will rise to a more visible status based on the activities of the community.

So "community sourced" might be a definite step in the right direction. Still wouldn't mind replacing the sourced part ... if possible.

Maybe i missed something obvious, but why call yourselves a social network at all - why lead with that? Opinion engine is much more accurate and much more compelling.

As much as the hacker in me reveres "openness", I think Apple's approach will ultimately be a fantastic motivating challenge to open alternatives. Setting the UX bar high, and "game on".

hmm the text width hadn't bothered me but that's an understandable critique. what i love about the app most is the playlist - so i can queue up any amount of audio and let er roll while i code.

The NPR ipad app is simple, elegant, and fantastic. For me a much better experience than the web site is or could be. I can rip through content at the speed of my mind. So I think the issue is design. Good iPad ux is not a given - designers need to consider that the keys are clarity, organization and speed of access.

Was hoping there'd be some reasons grounded in specifics as to why an android phone provides a better overall experience than an iphone.

I think, somewhat ironically, that the final "most important" point #6, is by far his weakest. A platform is made stronger by having more tools to create for it. If a tool does not keep up with new platform features then it will suffer in the marketplace. There's nothing about having tool x, that prevents anyone from using tool y or Apple's own toolset.

I do however think that Apple is in the right to require the tools to compile to native code using native UI widgets etc, and not be a blackbox runtime. The goal of ensuring consistent user experience is valid and worthy.

i just don't want to see and think about facebook's brand everywhere i go on the web. it's one thing to actively choose to post something to facebook, even if from another site...or retweet or digg etc. but that "like" thing ... there's no action there, or sharing of the thought of the user clicking. it's so banal, and so vague, that to see it spread to every site - keeping up with the joneses - just bums me out like seeing a gap show up on valencia street ...or somesuch.

I think a dominant pattern is to try and put forth gospels from the experiences of successful startups. All worthwhile to explore, however, sometimes it starts to feel a bit mechanical. Each context is so unique. I tend to think that there are so many potential paths, and agility is in part being creative with carving your own.

I think it's a wedge device. It will not be an overnight sensation. More so, the first viable larger format touch experience in the beginning of a steady and gradual increase in this kind of UI playing a major role in how we interact with information and media. Apple has planted roots creating enough momentum for the space to begin growth in earnest. We'll see steady improvements to the iPad, new competing tablets, touch screen desktops, and so on. It's started...the iPad is simply a tipping point. Not a singular revolution in itself.
