Pid control was supposed to allow people that rotate valves to magically transform into software configurators. That never happened. Those people turned into janitors and an automated solution became a capital project. The janitorial staff gets fired in the end.

Oh this post again. Kind of made sense to repost it on the solstice, but why again and again and now?

How do they not have much to lose? They are the ones that have their users on a subscription basis.

Wasn’t room 641A just the NSA strong arming At&T to facilitate full take collection?

Sure, call. Do a back and forth with calls and emails for two days with their sales guy to make sure they got it right. Spending five to six figures. 5-15% of order shows up incorrect.

When you go to try another distributor: No, you're in crappy vendor's territory. So, sorry!

Waiting for that invisible hand of the free market to step in...

Cheap and reliable goods. Free software. Great prices. Decent Docs.

Best of all, no middle men distributors to dick around with. It is so easy to buy their stuff compared to almost all other controls hardware.

Just switched my work phone to a flip phone. Fuck smart phones. My life and job aren't that important for immediate email updates.

I've got automated SMS texts for critical alarms. if something else is burning down, someone will call.

I miss email on my phone, but it just makes me use the phone for what it is for: Talking

they are likely just relay closures.

You get it, yup.

Also each school is probably on the net these days, so replace with some Wifi IOT device.

What I use are Ethernet to Bacnet gateways. Each building gets a gateway device with Bacnet nodes connected over a serial daisy chain. If the HVAC device isn't networkable, serial devices do the relay flipping. IT folks get the data into different applications.

Integration and maintenance are expensive.
