Thank you, andsoitis, for returning to this blog post. I also appreciate all the comments here, especially folks telling their stories. I should write a sequel now.

A few weeks ago I saw dozens of Singaporean kids showing off projects they'd built with the Micro:bit. They learned a good deal, had been very creative, and were clearly interested in learning more. Sounds like a good outcome.

Ah, what a loss.

I remember being astonished by Giger's vision in Alien. For years I hunted down posters, calendars, and books, which weren't always available or affordable. Like others here, I relished the Dark Seed game for its tribute to Giger.

This takes me back to an earlier stage of my life, and makes me very sad. What a vision!

Interesting to see Schneier make this point. Assange et al argue similarly in _Cypherpunks_.

Good thought, andrew, but it still doesn't work for me. It's hard to wake up from a nap, and I'm dazed - and tired! - afterwards. I've tried this all times of day, and each time it's like being clobbered by a baseball bat.

You're correct about not trying to fix the sleep schedule before kicking caffeine. I was just too damned busy, for far too long. Cf my above comment about caffeine's continuous nature, too.

jessriedel is correct. That's true of most cases. Alas, not mine.

Interesting view, jperras. For me the caffeine changed loomed largest, partly because it was a nearly continuous part of my day. Eating meals was a handful of hours; ditto adding exercise. But I usually had coffee/soda to hand.

Actually, I've never had a sign of ADD. I don't lose things, have decent impulse control, can pay attention for long periods of time, don't job-hop. Heck, I homestead and adore the films of Andrei Tarkovsky. :)

RSS, if you're interested in what I normally think about: education, technology, the future. Otherwise, you can use the contact form to send me your address. I'll ping you when part 2 goes live.

I'm shooting for a weekend followup, Mz. If you like, use the contact form to send me an email address, and I'll ping you when it's done.

I was hoping to get it all done in one post, but the thing just kept growing. The mad extent of my habit wasn't something I recalled all at once. Part 2 is cooking up now. Maybe when it's done I'll paste 'em together.
