Lucid Software (http://www.golucid.co) is building world class graphical applications in the browser and on mobile devices. Our first product, Lucidchart (http://www.lucidchart.com), is an online diagramming application with 1M+ users. We recently launched our second product, Lucidpress (http://www.lucidpress.com), which is an online layout and design application. Lucid is a startup founded by Karl Sun, a former Google exec, and Ben Dilts, our CTO. We've been profitable for 2+ years and recently closed our Series A. We are growing rapidly in every dimension of the business and need people to join our team. For fun we raft river rapids on company retreats, have Friday BBQs, and eat lots of pizza. Talent and ability to learn are more important than specific skills.

BACKEND SOFTWARE ENGINEER (all experience levels) - Lucidchart and Lucidpress run with various decoupled services in a Linux environment using Scala, MongoDB, AWS, and MySQL. At Lucid your responsibilities would include enhancing existing services, building new services, integrating with 3rd party applications and ensuring services are highly available, secure, and scalable. Requirements: - Talent - BS degree Recommended experience: - Building large products / applications - Scala or Java - MySQL or other relational database - NoSQL databases - Cloud computing (AWS)

FRONTEND SOFTWARE ENGINEER (all experience levels) - Lucidchart and Lucidpress are powered by one of the largest Javascript codebases on the Internet (about 250k lines of JS), optimized so that the user experience is indistinguishable from an installed native application. Come help us show the tech world what can be done on the web. Requirements: - Talent - BS degree Recommended experience: - Building large products / applications - Javascript - Google Closure compiler/library - CSS/HTML/DOM manipulation - jQuery

IOS ENGINEER (all experience levels) - We are looking for a talented iOS developer to play a key role in the design and development of Lucid Software's iOS applications. This is an opportunity to make a big impact and see your work used by millions of customers. The ideal candidate will have a passion for building best-in-class iOS applications. Requirements: - Talent - BS degree Recommended experience: - Experience designing, architecting, and releasing iOS applications - Deep understanding of Objective-C and the internals of iOS frameworks - Extensive knowledge of iOS common software design patterns, including the ones needed to develop high-performing UI

All applicants email resumes (and links to recent projects) to jobs@lucidchart.com.

Thanks for the compliments, and great question! For launch, we have not delved deeply into the bowels of InDesign's format so it's not definitively off the table -- just a prioritization of resources for now.

With Lucidchart, we are the only diagramming app that imports Microsoft Visio's native file format...so it's not unprecedented for us to tackle these types of things.

The good news is that this has become a forefront issue. Governor Herbert has started making air quality a priority, but also key local groups like Envision Utah.

Fixing the inversion problem though will take active involvement from the community. If we could get 1/3 of the cars off the road on the 10 days/year it mattered the most, it would be a game-changer. The tech companies in the area could make a big difference in this effort if they let their collective thousands of employees work from home on those days.

I agree that this seems to be one of the major lags. Though we are based in Utah, my company raised our seed round entirely from investors outside of Utah (Google Ventures, 500Startups, etc.).

We only had to do one thing to double our valuation -- book a plane ticket from the Salt Lake airport to San Francisco.

Thus far we have seen our transactional emails also going to Promotions, as well as our standard marketing emails.

This could be both good and bad. Bad because as you mention, the user won't see it immediately even if they requested it. Good because if the user actually uses and likes your service, they may start to take those transactional emails to their Priority inbox which could train it to also respect the marketing type e-mails as Priority as well. Again, this would only happen if the user actually likes your service.

I'm never a fan of giving up equity in exchange for short-term services, rather than a long-term commitment from an employee or investor.

I wonder if you would have success attracting high-potential startups. It would seem that most of these are able to raise money for the needs you talked about, especialy since it appears easier than ever to raise a small seed round.

As a result, you could be left with mediocre to low-quality startups only which threatens the model.

Have there been any studies definitively showing a link between social media links and increase in search rankings? I've been doing SEO for a number of years and I'm always a little skeptical of what is proclaimed as the latest trend.

I agree it would certainly make sense for Google to do it (and I imagine they are, and giving favor to G+), but I haven't seen any compelling evidence myself.

Interesting to hear. Have you tried Lucidchart - http://www.lucidchart.com. We turn around improvements very quickly and I'd be interested to hear if it meets your needs, and if not, what we're currently missing for you. You can reach me at support [at] ...

And if you're still a student, we give free upgrades to Pro accounts so we'd be happy to hook you up.

Wasn't Google a 'minor twist' on existing search engines? Wasn't Facebook a 'minor twist' on existing social networks?

The value difference is huge between poor execution and stellar execution on a solid concept. So just because another company has a mediocre product in a space, is it not worth creating a much better and improved version?
