Got my degree in physics in 1981 and went straight into programming at the Center for Space Sciences. I do web development, write music, do some artwork, some photography and video, do kung fu, and have been working on my 3dSkiMaps idea off and on since about 2000 (I think). I was trying to start up a company doing voluptuously sculpted telephones, when the guy who was helping me with that saw my 3dSkiMaps and thought it might have a better chance of flying than the phones. I've worked on various configurations over the years, and finally hit on something I felt I should go public with late in 2006. It's been fairly popular, and it's at a point now where there's too much to be done for just one person.

Of course, my thing is already started, the YC thing was just a last minute deal, I only found out about it a couple of weeks before the deadline. People are interested in what I'm doing, interest is building, and I have a lot of ideas to continue improving it.

I'll still be looking for some cash, though, because development would go a lot faster if I didn't have to work to pay the bills, and it would help me compete against anybody who might be out there to compete against me.

D'oh! I was just doing my profile, didn't mean to start a discussion. But if you must know...

Psychedelically beautiful 3d Ski Maps show you at a glance the steepness of the slopes on a color scale that's the same for all ski mountains, so there's no more guessing what they really mean by "beginner", "intermediate", and "expert".
