Infrastructure/platform engineer, 20 years in. Usually the first infra hire — comfortable inheriting whatever exists and turning it into something production-grade.

Most recently built Ginkgo Bioworks' ML model serving platform and multi-tenant GKE infrastructure from scratch (joined via the Reverie Labs acquisition). Before that, was sole infra engineer at Reverie — built their entire AWS platform from the first commit, ran EKS clusters, and supported GPU workloads for computational drug discovery.

Looking for early-stage teams solving hard problems in interesting domains. I value a culture of trust, ownership, and room to build.

The reason is that await does not offer a suspension point to an event loop (it just calls `__await__` and maybe that offers a suspension point), so if we wanted to use that syntax then we'd need to replace `yield coro` with something like await `tinyio.Task(coro)`. The traditional syntax is not worth the extra class.

At Reverie Labs, we're rethinking drug discovery by building a biotech company that looks and feels like a tech company. We are actively working on several cancer therapeutics programs and building an internal platform to accelerate discovery. We're looking for engineers across the tech stack, including data scientists, front-end engineers, and full-stack devs to expand the computational systems that generate the next era of life-saving treatments for millions of patients. If you think you might enjoy any of these types of projects, we'd love to hear from you! * Architecting a Django REST-driven internal application development ecosystem that supports multiple drug development programs.

* Building performant software for billion-scale molecular analyses alongside machine learning engineers.

* Designing and implementing front-end interfaces that enable our in-house chemistry team to interface with software.

* Using Pandas/R/Plotly/Dash or any other of your favorite analysis tools to extract meaningful insights from datasets.

* Combining a set of 25+ in-house experimental assays and 50+ external data streams into a universally accessible data platform.

* Using a modern cloud-first development stack, giving you access to effectively infinite computing power.

* Owning the full development cycle of a product from ideation to implementation to deployment (of course in collaboration with a team!)

We were in the W18 batch of YC and are now based in the biotech hub in Cambridge, MA. We offer competitive salary and above-market equity. Benefits include full medical, dental, and vision coverage, flexible vacation policy, and gym membership. If you have any questions or want to apply, please reach out to Ankit at ankit@reverielabs.com, or apply at our website here: https://reverielabs.com/careers.

_why's Estate 5 years ago

Few developers in my career have stuck with me the way _why did. I hope he is doing well, wherever he is.

That's not quite as satisfying as text-based files managed via proper version control

I just want to say thank you, this was a very concise explanation of a very complex concept.

I've been working with NATs for years and your comment helped me "click" and understand them at a different level.

OBS Studio 26.0 6 years ago

This has indeed been my experience. It seems to be one of those uncommon situations where a physical server is more desirable than a cloud server.

OBS Studio 26.0 6 years ago

Does anyone have suggestions for running OBS in the cloud?

I have a project that is designed to run 24/7 and it would be really nice if I could use a cloud server instead of a computer on my home network.

I have it all set up... OBS in Docker with k8s templates. Just need to find an affordable online option.

I always think of this poem by Ralph Waldo Emerson:

    To laugh often and much;
    to win the respect of the intelligent people
    and the affection of children;
    to earn the appreciation of honest critics
    and endure the betrayal of false friends;
    to appreciate beauty;
    to find the best in others;
    to leave the world a bit better
    whether by a healthy child, a garden patch,
    or a redeemed social condition;
    to know that one life has breathed easier
    because you lived here.
    This is to have succeeded.
FFmpeg 4.3 6 years ago

The problem with calling ffmpeg multiple times in a script is you often waste compute time.

If you can manage to cobble together a single command (as illegible as that may be), you might be able to do what you're looking to do in far less time
