How uv got so fast 7 months ago

Yup. The author has now swapped that part out for “Any language can do this.”

Just commenting to preempt any comments telling you that the article doesn’t say this.

Nice start. There's definitely room for a good native macOS chat client, I have tried a few now and none feel perfect. I found two that feel usable:

HuggingChat (https://github.com/huggingface/chat-macOS) It has a launcher interface in the current release, and code, latex, etc are pretty printed. You can switch from HF hosted models to local mlx ones (though those are hardcoded rn i think). I like it for quick queries to qwen2.5-coder and I think it would be great if they develop it more.

Enchanted (https://github.com/gluonfield/enchanted) This one feels a bit buggy and it might be abandoned, but it has basic functionality for working with ollama models.

Also worth a mention is aichat (https://github.com/sigoden/aichat). It's not a native gui app, but it's an impressive cli client.

Nice, I’ll try it. I assume this takes a screenshot every second or so and we get a video?

Semi-related but I’ve been wanting a screen recording tool that drops identical consecutive frames for reducing file size. Maybe frame comparison would be mouse-insensitive idk. Cause I would like to review what I’ve been working on and still capture the details as I’m scrolling a page, but often there’s half a second where I’m just reading or I take a drink of water or something and I don’t need those frames. I suppose this is a pretty close approximation if I can capture like 10fps or something

Dynamic UTIs in macOS started to cause problems for me when I upgraded to Catalina.

Setting defaults for 'Open with' on these file types seems pointless as I'm forced to do it once per each dynamic UTI (as far as I can tell).

It's also annoying that quicklook (extensions) started playing dumb with them — you'd think that QL would look for the lowest familiar ancestor or something.

I'm not sure whether the file typing approach changed with catalina, or if the migration from qlgenerators to quicklook extensions broke things, or if it's just catalina being buggy but it's disappointing that the typing situation seemed better back in mojave.

Perhaps related: "How come someone notarized my app?"[0]

It mentions that anyone with an apple developer ID can notarize a qualifying app and submit this notary to the Apple Notary Service. However, the proof of notarization—the notarization ticket—might not be stapled to the application.

In the case of no stapled ticket, Catalina contacts the notary service to see whether a ticket exists. If so, the app is good to go.

EDIT. More informative link here[1]. It specifically outlines what happens on first run of an app. (and there's a great diagram if you scroll down)

Electron 9.0 6 years ago

Mostly unrelated, but does anyone know how apple managed to make the macOS Apple Music app feel like electron?

I imagine that they didn’t actually use electron, but the app feels pretty far from native imo

I hope your MBP remains that way. I have a 13” 2018 MBP myself and felt similarly up until a week ago.

After evading all the issues that have plagued the butterfly-switched keyboards, I started seeing my “e” key repeating itself every so often.

I made the relevant changes in settings to minimize this, but I’m now seeing occasional repeats on both the “e” key and the “i” key (maybe once every 30 presses). Livable, but it worries me.

I think I’m going to look into their keyboard repair program later today

Agreed. I've been trying to get my 2018 MBP to do 4k 60hz through my AVR and TV via a USB-C to HDMI cable with no luck so far. The AVR, TV, and cable are each individually HDMI 2.0a or greater, but my MBP refuses to believe that more than 1080p 60hz is possible.

And it actually worked at 4k 60hz the first time I plugged everything together, just not since then. Irritating to say the least.

Woah. I think I ran into this last night after updating to Safari 12 on macOS. I was typing my message into messenger.com (facebook messenger), and all of my typing was reversed. I even took a photo of it
