Given climate change's existential consequences, the price seems like a steal. Compare it to 2023 DoD budget of $773 billion [1] and the _net_ interest the feds paid on national debt in 2023 of $659 billion [2].

Certainly, we should implement numerous intervention strategies to combat climate change. Government spending seems largely unaccountable to citizens outside of the lobbyist elite. Why not, at least, spend some Monopoly money on something that might actually work?

Googler here. We've structured the company to extract rent rather than innovate. We hire outsiders who are supposed to help us "grow up". That means processes and staying in your lane. Managers actively discourage work on 20% projects, because we "have a business to run."

Leadership needs to allow us to build things again. And they need to also recognize that innovative ideas can originate outside of SV and NYC.

The first and only occurrence I’ve heard of this claim was Rogan’s podcast. The article lumps him in with other claimants. But it doesn’t actually demonstrate that his anecdote is fabricated. How does this portion of the article make it past the editor? It’s entirely possible that his story is completely made up. It is also possible that it’s not made up. Tabloid journalists make conjectures. Real journalists substantiate their claims. We deserve better reporting.

It doesn't take authority to effect change. You'd be surprised at what you can accomplish once you figure out how who owns the various fragments of the solution.

Agree. I’m a US citizen who lived in London. The cost of essentials are actually very affordable in the UK. Your lifestyle excludes the need to acquire material goods. If earning money is your primary focus, I would choose the US. These are my prime earning years and am happy to be here. Otherwise, I found the UK to be an amazing place to live. I look forward to hanging it all up and returning to a quiet village in the Cotswalds.

I hope to see a democratic China in my lifetime. Rationalize the “cold shoulder” however you like. But the CCP has so much more than to answer for beyond their self-interested COVID cover-up. The problem is pervasive, and speaking in noncommittal terms perpetuates passive acceptance. We can take action through our democratically elected representatives by re-opening mental health institutions and drug rehab centers. And we can enable law enforcement to lock up violent offenders with the assurance that the defendants will be given due process instead of being released without charges.

Why not create profiles of real customer contacts? Use their own words for how they describe themselves and their goals.

I have my concerns too about Facebook, but this is typical sensationalist journalism. If every statement weren’t hyperbolic I’d give it more credibility. Why are so many journalists so bad at their craft now? Read the NY Times, BBC or The Intercept and compare their professionalism to this article. They’ve become an anachronism in a sea of progressive blogger shit like HuffPo.

I've spent my career living in sales and engineering camps. I've managed whole sales organizations and written full applications from the ground up. I could not disagree more with the author that time estimates should be eliminated. The business does not exist without revenue, and revenue is less likely to be retained (customers) or acquired (new customers) when the business is unable to anticipate product delivery timelines. Think about all of the other business functions that key their todos and deadlines off of a product release. There is also the question of accountability. I'm intrinsically motivated to be productive, but even I value knowing if I am tracking well on a burn down chart. It gives me daily insight into whether or not I should communicate a need to trim scope or coordinate a deadline change with the other business functions if scope can't be trimmed. Kanban is awesome for bug fixes that are hard to anticipate, but any dev worth their salt should be able to offer a time estimate. If something happens, then communicate why the estimate has to change and keep incorporating the lessons learned from into future estimates.

The quality of available food in the US is a big part of the problem. A recent TED speaker postulates 74% of food in the average US grocery store is spiked with added sugar [1]. We also eat too few vegetables and too much meat in our diets. And those foods are often raised with harmful pesticides and hormones respectively.

I am a discerning shopper, avoid fast food and still get surprised by food that is not good for me. For instance, I put a tiny amount of unflavored, low-fat half & half in my coffee in the morning. I checked the label today and see that it contains corn syrup. In my head, it was just skim milk and cream. Silly me.
