I think you make the mistake of thinking that people oppose all state violence. Many people approve of some state violence in the name of maintaining societal order, but oppose torture. And I would posit that coercive incarceration is a form of torture.

It is a mistake to believe that people are ideologically consistent. And I would be hard pressed to believe that torture is not more extreme or less legitimate than other forms of violence.

I think it's pretty clear that the parent is accusing the state of using torture to coerce compliance, which is a strong indication that the state itself is no longer legitimate.

If this is true for any religion, as you claim, then why the inordinate focus on Islam? It seems like bigotry against Muslims is the most likely explanation.

Also claims of being the "one true religion" no not inherently incite genocide, whereas Nazism does.

Is this a serious question? It should be evident why it's okay to ostracize an ideology founded on the belief in genocide of "lesser" people. While some interpretations of Islam lead to violence, the same can be said about probably any religion, and Islam is not foundationally rooted in violence.

If you legitimately can't tell the difference between a genocidal ideology and a religion then I cannot continue this conversation.

However, there are far more clear examples of Nazis, like Richard Spencer, who writes pieces on the best way to genocide the black race and things like that. You do a disservice to the people they are harming by refusing to acknowledge that actual Nazis exist, are recently emboldened, and are gaining state power in some cases.

Being a Nazi is a priori violent. They have declared an intent to commit genocide by subscribing to that ideology. They ought to be excluded from society at every turn, because their goal is the destruction of our society and the mass murder of our peers.

This is what intersectionality addresses. It's meant to address all forms of oppression, including race, class, gender identity, sexuality, sex, religion, ethnicity, etc.

I just took an uber ride where the driver told me she left her granddaughter's birthday party to drive people. Maybe she has different priorities than I would, but I think it's more likely that she's economically desperate enough that she has to miss those moments to make ends meet. As much as I like the service uber provides, I don't think we should pretend people are working for uber without duress.

The Democrats are absolutely liberals in the European sense of the word. They are pro-capitalism and have abandoned any pretense of pro-worker or leftist thought. HRC was George W. Bush reincarnate, Bill Clinton was as far right as any pre-Reagan Republican. Obama is a bit to the left of the Clintons, but he's still staunchly center-right and you'll notice that Obamacare is not single-payer nor does it allow for the government to compete in the marketplace.

I think what you were trying to say in your original comment was that "positive" sexism doesn't exist. That the author was being unreasonable when she interpreted her co-worker standing up for her as sexism.

I will assert that such "positive" acts can be and often are sexist. Negative actions can also be sexist. It is possible to take a sexist action while you think you're being helpful. Not all sexism is manifested in malice.

Consider similar racial stereotypes like "Asians are good at math" or "black people are good at sports." You might think that someone is positive, but those beliefs are deeply rooted in racism and racial stereotypes.

I don't think that the witch trials, which were effectively a small genocide against women, are a particularly effective metaphor for refuting manifestations of sexism.

I'd also be happy with banning climate change denial here, similar to how I assume Holocaust denial would be treated. Climate change is an existential threat to our planet and everything on it. There is no debate to be had. The science is in. Denialism of climate change is just as legitimate as Holocaust denial, which is to say, not at all legitimate.
