You are probably right. It is clingey. I promise to let go! My question was more a reflection on what is it that may burn a programmer out. In this case it is more than just a mere programmer, it was someone with great communication skills. A rather rare combination.
What a fantastic way to deal with the problem. Whereas most people would have gone and paid money to some repair place, you took matters into your own hands. I love the iFixit approach to problems. (although I do understand why many people may find this a bit too much). What else can you hack?
I am a developer as well but I struggle to put anything less than 5 days a week. I'd be really interested to know how you managed to find work that pays so well that you can afford to work only 3 days.
Salvatore is an inspiration for all the developers living in off the grid areas. I am based in Greece where there are a similar challenges (crap government which almost tries to stop you from building a business) and opportunities (good quality of life(especially if you are not in Athens) - family). It would be nice if we reach a point where our location does not matter that much.

Honestly, after all this research is the best Hitachi could come up with? How about a marble stone with some dots on it? They seem to last a long time too.
