The blog post mentions support for 300+ services. I have a couple of questions:

1. It would be interesting to see a comparison between the Rust service coverage and other language SDKs that have been around for a while such as Java. Is there such a place to see this comparison? 2. Will the Rust SDK stay up to date with the latest services as they're announced?

I'm very excited to see this announcement. It's been a long time coming.

This is exciting in several ways including the fact that Martin Kleppmann is involved with the project. Filed at the top of my reading list if nothing else to see an undoubtedly good example of a complex Rust project.

Great project! These features come to mind that would be great additions:

1. Ability to filter response properties.

2. Ability to work with non-JSON (web scraping) by defining a mapping of CSS selectors to response properties.

3. Cross-reference host names of captured requests with publicly documented APIs.

4. If auth headers are found, prompt user for credentials that can then be stored locally.

5. "Repeater" similarly found in Burp Suite.

6. Generate clients on the fly based on the generated OpenAPI spec.

This hits a chord with me and I've felt the same way for years. I'm now unemployed (by choice) and mulling over if I should take the plunge to pursue a SaaS or find another job.

One resource I haven't seen mentioned yet is https://tinyempires.substack.com/. He emphasizes not going the VC route and keeping the business small (solo) instead.

I feel like there should be a support group somewhere for like-minded software engineers that are unhappy with the typical job and yearning for a more self-fulfilling path.

Edit: I forgot to mention there's also a bunch of good videos on YouTube from ycombinator startup school. They go into a lot of detail about cultivating ideas, etc.

I have a couple of desktops with decent CPU, memory and GPU and 4x Intel NUCs that I run Proxmox on to manage VMs. I generally run a Kubernetes cluster on the VMs.

Depending on your use case, maybe just run a couple $5 machines on DigitalOcean?

I'm curious the page mentions not being able to scrape sites that require a login but then I saw LinkedIn as an example. Will LinkedIn eventually be supported but require a login or something?

As I read this I wonder if SBOM (Software Bill of Materials)[1] could be used? I'm not sure if it already has configuration files as part of it's definition but doesn't seem like a stretch to add? Btw, I've never used SBOM in practice but seems like something worthwhile implementing.

I just left a $45B company that has many of the same issues you mention. There were efforts around consolidating competing technologies and vendors as well as a very large "digital transformation" effort which I was directly a part of. None of the efforts went very well for a variety of reasons including reorgs, two competing technology organizations, hard economic times, etc. Another underlying issue I saw was lack of accountability and communication. "Technical debt factory" is a great way to phrase it.

Ultimately, leadership has to make tough decisions cut costs while not impacting the company's continued growth.

Good luck! One of my hobbies in the past has been bug bounties and I've heard the CISSP is one of the harder certs to attain.

This is something I've been thinking a lot about recently in the context of an area I might try to build a SaaS for.

One domain I've encountered that falls into this category is mom and pop food stores which don't typically have a decent website. You typically have to visit the store or call to find out things like what they stock and current prices (to do comparison shopping).

Great tip. I have a couple of friends that have traveled to that region in part because of the low cost. Thanks for the suggestion.

I love tools like this (text to diagram) and tend to use mermaid for most things. I also really like draw.io which includes a gui and has integration with GitHub to save diagrams directly to a source repo.

Is there a solution that has direct, bi-directional integration with Postgres/MySQL. For example, execute DDL from the diagram or point to an existing db and output the diagram text?

I should have been more clear but my intent is to use the information I find to actually filter jobs by company before I apply to them. Or, at least have a good indication how a company may compare to others in my list.
