I doubt you are the average consumer though. Now days I think the biggest average consumer use case is streaming and game downloading, with game downloading being the biggest “I want it now!” impulse. But do you need 1gb service to download that call of duty game every year? I even think most people could get by with 50mb/s and not even know as long as the latency keeps up. If it’s fast enough to stream Bluey the masses are content.

I think the end game is convenience. Nobody really needs anything more than 200mb/s. If the average person can have their entire family stream their favorite Netflix show at the same time then that’s good enough. “Now lil Jimmy can watch it in the minivan too!”

I feel like this used to be more true, and is getting less true each year. With covid they really did a lot of negative things related to the parks. They cancelled a lot of things ( magical express, free magic bands for resort guests, etc) raised prices and overall began to focus on “shareholder value” over guest experiences. They also really messed up the Star Wars IP and seemed like anything for a quick buck, and became unable to make original stories. In 30 years they should revisit this and they will probably find they took a nose dive. The people who made the nostalgia are long gone, and the new guard is slowly burning it all away.

With the 5090 you need to buy the rest of the computer though, and the Dgx spark will run 1/4th as slow but use 1/5th the electricity. I’m always a bit confused by this, don’t we want this? If the end goal is to have ai and robots do it all, and there are no jobs left, what would children provide if they aren’t down payments on a future work force? Only people that wanted children would have children as all the old childless people would be taken care of by the states robots. I mean not exactly like that but something like that. Ai isn’t taken anyone’s job is there is nobody there to take it from. Or is that line of think too… something.

AI can really only be as good as the data it’s trained on. It’s good at images because it’s trained on billions of them. Lines of code, probably 100s of millions, but as you combine those codes into concepts, split by language, framework, formatting etc all you loose the numbers game. It can’t tell you how to make a good enterprise app because almost nobody knows how to make a good enterprise app, just ask Oracle… ba-da-bum!

iPhones last killer feature was usbc. I mean the M1 is nice but pretending that it can do in 110w what the 3090 does with 320w is Apple marketing nonsense. Like if your use case is playing games like cp2077, the 3090 will do 100fps in ultra ray tracing and an M4 Max will only do 30fps. Graphing calculators did, which is why in a lot of math classes they got banned. If your calculator can solve for x, you won’t spend time learning how to. The best math classes usually do without calculators focusing on concepts and skip numbers you’d need a calculator for.

I feel too, at least in the US, people have backed themselves into a corner where they are unable to dole out punishment. Not just for violating or abusing taking their dogs everywhere, but literally everything. Should someone be punished for a prank gone wrong? Of course not, they didn’t mean it, it was just a prank! Should someone be punished for faking a therapy dog? Of course not, it’s just a dog! Should someone be punished for speeding? Of course not, it’s just speeding and all cops are bad! Should someone get in trouble for minor theft? Of course not, it’s just minor theft, capitalism is bad! Eventually though they end up on the side being taken advantage of and now they have no recourse because they are all in on the no consequences society. If they speak up, their peers who are also part of the no consequences society disown them, until it then also happens to them. I guess that’s an oversimplified version of it. If nothing is a crime then you can have no criminals, society is better already, and you all get A+, yeah for us!

I don’t think it’s entirely a mentality issue. I think North America created an environment where you wouldn’t want your 8 year old to navigate New York City. I would let my kids wander Tokyo before I would let them wander Chicago. Japan would not tolerate people spitting at and harassing children where Chicago does indeed tolerate that. The build quality is only matched by the screen which is awesome. Battery life is also excellent. If I was to have a laptop for 6 years this is the one I’d invest in.

The idea that style and linting define the “craft” is bizarre. What it sounds like you are saying is that you prefer style over substance. Not a single developer I’ve ever revered cared about styling. It’s a means to an end for large teams because to make it easy to read you need commonality.
