Just completed a coding bootcamp in full-stack web development, though I do have previous tech experience and my degree is in Computer Engineering. My preference is more for back-end development, and I am a very fast learner and am particularly good at troubleshooting/debugging.

I'm surprised this isn't more common, but at my apartment complex the machines are all payed by card. They give you a special card for the machines, and you can put money on it whenever you want. It was like this at college too, but with your student ID card. The machines at college also had slots for quarters, but I only ever used that when I forgot to put more money on my card.

Strangely, though I've flown out of San Jose, San Francisco, and Chicago since these new rules were put in place, the only security I've been through has been the same old metal detectors and carry-on x-rays. Even though I've been departing from major airports at busy times (Thanksgiving, Fourth of July), the security checks have all been fairly quick. I'm really confused about how inconsistently the TSA seems to be doing this.

I did that. Computer Engineering at Purdue. The only classes I ever studied for were the ones that I didn't pay attention to in lecture. I never took notes (this drove my teachers crazy in high school). There were only a few classes in which I got less than an A-, and only one of those was an ECE class (statistics; I couldn't make myself pay attention). All I did was go to lecture and do the assignments.

I'm not sure what I was supposed to see in that link, but I already figured that Audiogalaxy ran as a service, and that's not the problem. To clarify, I meant that I want to be able to have an app (not necessarily Audiogalaxy, just something similar) where I can input an address for a service on my computer (IP:port or URL), and log in directly to the service without going through any other servers (except DNS) at any point in the process. Nothing against your product, it's just how I prefer to do things. I don't even mind that much having to make an account to download the software since it's still in beta; it's just that since the music is already being streamed directly from my computer I'd rather have authentication happen there as well. I realize that an average user probably doesn't care, but I do.

I think I've looked at this in the past, and it's almost exactly what I want, but I'd rather be able to have a service running on my computer and be able to have the associated app log directly into my computer without having to have an account with someone else. Does anyone know any system to do that?

It might be a browser thing, but on my system it's way more than just for justification at the end of a line. For example, here's how the first half sentence looks to me:

I just checked my other browsers, and Firefox is the only one I'd want to read this in. Chrome has a problem with whatever is putting in the hyphens, and IE is using some difficult-to-read script font.

Great concept, and so far it looks like the execution is really good as well. However, I agree with rnernento about the gender icons. I see how they're based on the standard male and female symbols, but it's still a bit confusing, and not even slightly intuitive to someone who's never seen them before. I'm not sure what a better clever idea would be, but perhaps it would be best to switch to a basic M and F until another idea presents itself. Confusing symbols could potentially drive people away for no good reason.

Actually, #1 isn't quite true. A trombone can be made to sound like speech in a couple of ways.

First, with a plunger mute. The adults in the Peanuts cartoons were "voiced" by a trombone with a plunger mute, which gives the impression of a voice without necessarily sounding like it's saying anything in particular. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peanuts#Television_and_film_pro...)

Second, it's actually possible to make it sound slightly like specific words by altering the shape and size of your vocal cavity while playing a note. When this is combined with slight glissandos, it can be made to sound a lot like speech. In fact, there is a piece for solo trombone called "General Speech" which uses this technique to recreate General MacArthur's farewell speech at West Point on the trombone. To be fair, neither of these techniques produces anything you'd be able to understand in a conversation, but the point is that a sufficiently skilled trombonist could definitely say something that could be recognized as "I Owe You" on the instrument.

I suspect that it doesn't, since it's made from cells taken from a live pig, and the rules are based on characteristics of the animal the meat comes from. If they could synthesize it totally artificially, it might be kosher, but if it comes from a pig, it's probably not.
