Chrome is my default browser at work where I run windows.

1)helping encourage widespread html 5 and better javascript support so more people can run google apps

2) deals with hardware vendors

The big question is, will these netbooks and such running chrome os have all the linux tools available, or is this going to be a certified google world, with google package management?

I stumbled onto using Netbeans for PHP a few months ago while doing some Java work. I use it almost exclusively for PHP now (I also use geany for quick edits). While it's not quite as slick as the Java support, it is a world better than anything else I've used. Also the subversion and mercurial integration kicks ass.

Hope oracle continues to support development, but if not, we have the source.

Wake up, it's supported both at least since 6.5. I've used mercurial in netbeans for several months and it works great.

That said, maybe Geany is what you want... It's lightweight and somewhere in between an IDE an editor. I quite like it.

it seems really weird to me you find netbeans complicated. There's a reason java developers use bloated IDE's for anything more than quick edits. Spend a week in Netbeans and I bet you a lap dance you keep using it.
