- Devops / Developer minded SysAdmin: this is a very important role, PUPPET, Chef, AWS, Linux, LXC, OpenVZ. Xen, VMWare, you should just have this immense desire to automate and simplify everything, and be a product person, plan, implement and ship - not a maintainer that lives in their cave until things crash, and apply one off server tweaks.

- Frontend Developer: HTML, CSS, Coffeescript - Familiarity with Node/Ruby/Mongo/Mysql, cool github projects is a plus, have to have your own website when we click your link, it should make us want to hire you.

- Backend Developer: Go, Node,Python,Ruby,Coffeescript, MongoDB, RabbitMQ are the things we use. More you know these, the better. If you miss some, don't worry, if you have a strong OOP background, and designing/working on large scale apps is your thing, just drop me an email.

We're open for remote, part time or full time in San Francisco. Only thing we don't want is that you have multiple clients. You can be a student or very experienced individual, and work for Koding 20 hours a week, or work a day or two. You just shouldn't be managing multiple clients and not show up for Koding because your other client had emergency. We want Koding to be the only thing you think about, when you're not working, when you go to sleep, when you wake up.

At this stage we're more willing to have VERY experienced developers, and we're very generous with rates. Our current freelancers have stocks in the company, we don't favor in house developers (alright, maybe just a little :)). Some of our freelancers make more than those are in the office. Your location has no significance to us, just your work. If your work is awesome, your compensation is equally awesome.

We're not scaling, if you read the post carefully, you will see that we're looking for the 5th member, and the word 'best' is used correctly. I won't provide additional reading for you, because I don't think you will read them.

just a little note on this one, i've made clear in my original writing this is not hate and i sent an email to substack, and ryan to some others i know. i guess i will send you an email next time as well.

not filing as a bug: you are right, i should have done that.

Buffer<->string conversion is WAY too expensive in Node: yes it is, hope you can make this way better, because we don't want to hit cpu each time we pull data from a e.g. database.

writing it to hackernews/stackoverflow: it's because i'm asking for solutions outside of nodejs domain, varnish,nginx or any other way this issue can be worked around. i'm sure you understand. and this was quite helpful as we're now deploying a few varnish and nginx servers to mitigate this problem.

i wasn't saying nginx is bad (nginx is awesome). i just wouldn't want to deploy and configure nginx with my app, if i can avoid it. in fact i got an awesome suggestion over at stackoverflow, that put the usage down to 0.3% http://d.pr/dXVR

sorry i started it.. i meant perceiving a word as one symbol vs a combination of letters. that will speed up and increase the amount of information we can take in, drastically.

considering we do use few thousand words max, to do 99% of our communication (sorry forgot where i read this article), learn those symbols, your eyes now can see much more at once, and brain can digest accordingly.

this is a serious upgrade folks, not just saying, i've been reading dotsies for a while now, i'm dead serious, this could become what my children will read and write with..

think differently. right now our brain processes letter by letter, with dotsies it will become symbol by symbol. i'm reading it for some time, haven't had that difficulty.

there will always be letters next to it anyway, easy to see the base, if you have to.

100% agreed. being an asshole is one problem, thinking about what's shared, and like you suggest, taking a moment to make sure if our message will be perceived as we intend is another.

i think this is more about who is saying "stupid" and how generous they feel about it. there are a few things

- if paul graham says it's stupid it's different than somebody who calls everything stupid.

- calling the owner of the idea stupid.

- plain old hating.

- saying 'stupid' can also be a part of the debate, that's natural.

this is a hard problem to solve, that's why i brought it up. there is definitely not an easy way of saying this is right or wrong, but if community sets its tone, i think participants will try to be a part of that commonality.

and hopfully HN stays 'objective' and within 'reason' with polite, kind, constructive comments. when there are no rules, haters win.

the whole problem i'm describing here is you (codeonfire). and it doesn't surprise me that you don't see it. let me try to show you.

you've wrongly (psycho)analyzed me/my viewpoint (i'm upset HN losing it's hip factor), misrepresented my proposal (censorship), then took your own analysis as a fact, and called me/my opinion "stupid" and "wrong" based on that.

of course, you didn't stop there, to add a bit of sarcasm and humor, you went on and checked the domain name that would remedy my non-existing problem. that's why i thanked you for proving my point.

this is a great example of low-quality hate content. it almost is a template, we can write a bot that exactly does what you do.

these are as stupid as dotsies :) such that i'd love some of them get implemented to hackernews. "curmudgeon" badge would be very useful in fact. not to belittle people, but to encourage them. as long as we know that person has that tone of voice in general, nobody will judge the content by that. and the person will be free to express himself in anyway he/she sees fit.

disagreement, is a very respectful thing, when done like you did. thus we sometimes respectfully disagree.

however you'd agree that calling people names, injecting malice is not ok. a comment like this, would add value to the argument, as i'd happily go ahead and say "i hear what you say, however ..." just like i did here.

i also don't think everything gets negative comments.

it's the 'new' stuff (idea/startup/concept, not funny/interesting links). just based on your links, you'd notice 'mainly negative' ones are 'new' stuff. positive ones are bash, excel spreadsheet, notepad++ etc.

if PG built and posted one of his 'ambitious ideas' here (http://d.pr/if1q), say he made his new email program, i bet the most upvoted comment would be like;

"... gmail does many of those things and already has X,Y,Z ... do you have any brains at all to understand email protocol is A,B,C ... you better spend your time doing research/study/..."

this is what i'm seeing over and over again.

valid points. obviously what we can give for free is not a 4g ram and 8 cores, it's a small instance that runs most of the things- look at it from the bright side, ur program will halt sooner, in case of infinite loop :) and if a company chooses koding to be their dev environment, they are free to provide any amount of ram or cpu per developer, in that case, everything will work as you expect.

blhack - co-f here - i'm sure you know what we mean to say is not let's take your computers away :) it's just, let's forget about setting up our localhosts each time we need to clone&run a friggin github project that makes you yum,brew,apt-get,npm,make,easy_install,gem and potentially mess up your environment.. we will give one in the cloud, each time you need one, and you can trash it when u'r done. or keep hacking.. cheers!

thinking OOP as a solution may lead to an article like this whereas it merely is a vehicle. you may or may not use it.

problems of OOP is explained in Go Language video by Rob Pike*, however very intellectually stated arguments in this article are mainly false.
