They will tell you how much you owe, but only if you file incorrectly :P
For Americans, if you didn't know, you can check your IRS transcripts at https://www.irs.gov/ to see exactly how much the IRS thinks you've earned.

What you might consider doing is try contacting Ruby Central, or whoever it is that runs Ruby Gems. Even if they can't/won't give you access to the account, I'm wondering if they could/would freeze publishing updates to these gems until the account "owner" proves they are who they say they are. That way they don't risk giving control to someone who is hard to verify (you) and they prevent malware from being uploaded by the person who now controls your email until they verify the you are (which obviously they shouldn't be able to do).
I like the concept of of everyone should have enough. I don't know if it's achievable, but I think it's a good goal to strive for.
Regardless of how you feel about taxation, increasing taxes will not fix out of control spending.
My first thought was I bet I could get Sonnet to fix it faster because I got something back in 3 minutes instead of 20 minutes. You can prompt a lot of changes with a faster model. I'm new to Claude Code, so generally speaking I have no idea if I'm making sense or not.
If I were a corrupt government official I would:
- install these cameras everywhere
- make the data available for everyone via an API
- make content about how we're all being spied on
- form sponsorship deals from Incogni & DeleteMe
- profit
I'm not an H1-B, but I am on a skilled migrant visa in a different country. While I'm not constantly thinking about it, I'm keenly aware that my immigration status is directly tied to my job. No job, no residence permit. So at a minimum I would say I have an incentive to not get fired, and the best way to not get fired is to be someone worth retaining.
I'm waiting for airlines to offer a budget First Class called Number Two Class. You get exclusive use the lavatory for the entirety of the flight.
Evolution of LinkedIn posts over time...
"Should you choose to inscribe the lexical designation 'DOMINATE' within the commentary section, I shall subsequently furnish you with my proprietary methodology for accumulating substantial financial wealth in the millions."
"Comment the word DOMINATE and I'll share my secret method for making millions of dollars."
"yo if u type DOMINATE in comments ill tell u how 2 get mad rich like millions n stuff fr fr no cap"
Lately I’ve been asking Cursor “what does the program do?” Was actually pretty helpful as a starting point.
I recently reported an email with “glint.email.microsoft” as a phishing attempt, but it turned out to be a corporate survey.
I've never used Mattermost before today. After checking out their site, I can see they are also a for-profit company. What does Mattermost offer that Slack does not, other than a bill lower than $195K/year?
Not sure is that would work, as @fishinggarrett will yoink them for being an invasive species.
Imagine living on the 20th floor or higher and having a broken ankle.
You're right, although I think I'd just call that sending a few emails. Cold email marketing as a practice includes learning how to avoid spam filters and avoiding being detected, and it's unapologetically spammy.
To be fair, you're better looking now.
I was learning about cold email marketing earlier this year, and it's all about learning to be a spammer:
- Registering lots of domains (launchmyapp.com, trymyapp.com, myapp.info, gomyapp.biz, etc.)
- setting up a limited number of mailboxes per domain
- warming email accounts up for 2 weeks by signing up for a service that sends to and receive messages from your accounts
- setting up a meta inbox to track messages sent and received across all of your accounts
Now pretty much every domain that isn't myapp.com looks like a spammer's domain to me.
I like the idea of healthspan instead of lifespan. I’m happy to keep going as long I’m healthy. When the good times are over and everyday is “please end me” day, I hope I don’t linger for too long.
I'm a little conflicted about using social media growing a business. If I do make content, I'll probably only commit to making actually useful posts, not putting up stuff that's vapid or shallow.
The trekking is great though!
I'm a Wise user. Transfers are mostly fine for currencies they support. The transfer is usually pretty fast. I tried paying for a guided Hike in Tbilisi, Georgia a few years ago, and the transfer took almost a week, so it's slow in some cases. For currencies Wise doesn't support, you need to look at other options, such as Western Union or crypto.
The hiring market is broken when there's a glut of applicants. Hiring tools do not make it easy to manage a flood of applicants, and "easy apply" features make it even worse. This was true before AI and it's more true now.
Source: I have 20 years experience as tech recruiter, and 11 as a developer
I was recently hiring for software role in the USA. It's pretty similar. Receiving that many applications is actually great, especially if you know how to go through them all. I'm efficient at it because I've worked as a recruiter for 20 years and a developer for 11 years. Happy to expand if you want to know more.
The opposite can also be true. The worst job I ever had was where I was hired by a company, and placed on the team of, a hiring manager that had recommended I not be hired. He offered me no support at all. They just couldn't find many people willing to work at the company, and I was naive enough to just be excited that someone wanted me. I left after about 5 months.
I'd love Python if it weren't for whitespace. I wanna cut/paste code into a REPL, and Python makes that difficult.
There are a lot of dumb questions, and I pose all of them to Claude. There's no infrastructure in place for this, but I would support some business model where LLM-of-choice compensates website operators for resources consumed by my super dumb questions. Like how content creators get paid when I watch with a YouTube Premium subscription. I doubt this is practical in practice.
The whole premise is just silly of thinking we don't need juniors is just silly. If there's no juniors, eventually there will be no seniors. AI slop ain't gonna un-slop itself.
Also a good book for those interested in VC is The Venture Mindset by Ilya Strebulaev.
I had no idea how preferred shares actually worked, so I went down a rabbit hole looking it up. That "always get 1x back" thing you mentioned is called a liquidation preference, which means preferred shareholders get their money back first before anyone else sees a dime.
Turns out there are different flavors too. "Non-participating" means preferred gets their original investment back, then common stock splits whatever's left. "Participating" means preferred gets their money back AND also gets to participate in splitting the leftovers with common shareholders. No wonder investors are willing to pay up for these late-stage rounds when they've got that safety net.
Maybe you can comment on this. I saw in the Zed demo that they're using "rewrite optimized version Claude". My first thought was wondering how big the bull is going to be.
