Hotels do this all the time. They book over 100% occupancy and usually someone cancels at the last minute and there's no problem. If everyone shows up they bump one of the people on the lowest rate. They give them a room at a comparable hotel nearby and some sort of other compensation. Most price-sensitive guests are okay with this trade because they're getting something for free.

They​ don't have fiascos like this because​ they aren't foolish enough to let them into the room before removing them. Unsurprisingly, kicking a guest out of a room/plane has a much higher risk of escalation than not letting them in.

What part are you having trouble with? You can use the AWS provider for the VPC, security groups, EC2 instances for the bastion host, cron server and load balancer (or an ELB). Elasticache and RDS also require parameter groups and subnet groups. They don't support replication groups for Elasticache yet, but there's a PR for it.

I've also seen tfstate get weird after a slow Elasticache spin up or termination. If it takes over 10 minutes it times out. The main thing I don't like about Terraform is that they don't support conditionals, which can be annoying.

I attended Hack Reactor last summer. The teaching style she describes was incredibly effective for me, and I couldn't have been happier with my experience there. It doesn't take long to pay off $18k when you get a huge raise.

For anyone interested in the history of nuclear physics and the atomic bomb, there is an excellent book by Richard Rhodes called The Making of the Atomic Bomb. He follows the scientists who made the discoveries leading up to nuclear fission and development of the bomb. His research is thorough and his storytelling engaging. The author does a great job of developing the characters and getting the reader excited about what could otherwise be dry descriptions of physics experiments.

It may have been intentional, to frighten them. If that was the case, it seemed to have the desired effect.

I usually just meditate for ten to fifteen minutes in the morning before I've had any coffee. I focus on my breathing, and when my mind wanders, I refocus. I don't notice much difference from longer meditation, and I'm always able to set aside ten minutes, so it is easier to maintain the habit. My advice for getting back into meditation is to just force yourself to do it for the first couple weeks, even if it doesn't feel worthwhile. Meditation has been an invaluable tool for me in fighting distraction. Investing a small amount of time practicing everyday yields huge returns in the long run. As the forces competing for your attention become stronger in the coming years, the ability to maintain focus will become more valuable. I see programs that block websites as only treating the symptoms of lack of focus, whereas meditation is a way to directly develop the skills to overcome it.
