So, about 1 and a half hours per European every year? That's pretty good to avoid gifting my data to adtech shitheads

It's interesting that they picked Amazon Go as an example of the power of AI (or ML) when in actuality most of the grunt work in those stores is done by "dumb" sensors AFAIK. The store "knows" that an item has been picked up from a certain shelf and thus it assumes that the item is what is usually on that shelf, it has little to do with either CV or AI in general, just careful placement of the items and weight sensing. I think that if you let a few kids roam free in there picking stuff up and setting it down in an unexpected place the magic of AI would dissolve into thin air.
What the other commenter said is absolutely true, but what's even more important is that 3080 doesn't seem to support SLI so you're "stuck" with one 3090 with that budget (which seems to be the only card supporting SLI this gen).
How can it track social connections when the codes are anonymous by default and can be deanonymized only with an OTP code you generate yourself?
Why would it need to account for wall/floors? Two phones will exchange codes when they are less than 1m away, you would have to try very hard to get two people as close as 1m with a wall in between
Also consider the fact that 5 mods control 92 of the top 500 subreddits.

Now imagine if a handful of people controlled 1/5th of the top 500 twitter accounts, instagram accounts, facebook pages
I think you should totally track the .it TLD, it's the Italian one but works wonderfully for word plays in English (and if iirc I've seen a few websites taking advantage of it). Some straightforward examples that come to mind would be buy.it, ship.it, design.it etc., you name(.)it ;)
Edit: also, being the Italian TLD I'm guessing quite a few English words are still available
Gdpr 100% applies here to any user residing in the EU, and as one I find it appalling that this is opt-out. Further, I couldn't find an option to delete my account, which is another clear violation of GDPR. I wonder how long before they get hit with a juicy fine.
How is Europe setting itself back compared to other superpowers? If anything, by enforcing privacy by design and default it is setting itself up to become the best place on earth to live if you give any value to your personal information
Tech consultancies need people with certs because usually a client will say 'i want X people with Y certificate on this project or I'll go to someone else'
I wouldn't be so optimistic https://xkcd.com/927/
But from what I've been taught in school, news articles should always aim to state only the facts as they have happened without trying to draw conclusions, show only one side of the story or inject the bias of the reporter. As long as you have journalists and editors able to do their jobs, stating facts doesn't become an exercise in pushing your narrative as you describe but simple reporting of "what happened" or "what has been said". In your specific example, you would report only on the actual statistical figures released, without trying to inject probabilities or percentages which are pushing your analysis and view of the data.
News outlets are then free to print articles containing opinions, studies and conclusions, but this are called editorials and not news articles, and by definition they do carry the opinion of the writer and his/her innate bias on the matter. Even in this case, saying something false is different from interpreting the data or facts at hand. For example, you could write and publish an editorial examining the same statistics as before and come up with the conclusion that there might be a racial bias - some people might agree, some people might not, but it's still an opinion based on hard data and doesn't contain a lie. If you, however, started saying that it's all a plot orchestrated by the reptilians running society to make you think that there's a racial bias, that would indeed be a lie with no factual basis and should be punishable.
There are facets and sides to every story you tell, but reducing everything down to the point where you conflate news reporting, opinions and lies is, imho, stupid.
The difference being that those meetings were a one-off or at the very least a rare occurrence. University,on the other hand, is a daily commitment for several years (meaning that it can also lead to chronic sleep deprivation)
They certainly don't, but then you have to be ready to face the consequences of silencing people based on your internal politics (i.e. those people not being your customers anymore, or, in this case, wanting you to delete all the personal data they have on you). ActiBlizz can certainly decide that appeasing the chinese market is worth more to them than the western one, but I don't understand why then their western customers can't complain/decide to not do business with them anymore
Oh boy, the university I'm attending right now has lectures starting at 8am, which is earlier than usual for my country, and ca. 36 hours of lectures per week. This means that you usually go 8am/6pm in uni multiple days a week, then you obviously have your assignments and catching up on the lectures to do, and all the random stuff that comes with living alone (laundry, grocery, cooking, cleaning, etc.) - this means that you quite literally get to the point where you either study or start skipping sleep. I complained to my faculty and the administration because it is quite full of studies that show that sleep deprivation leads to depression, lower performance, etc. And got various responses out of them: - a couple of professors told me that they don't care and if you want to succeed in university you have to sleep less than normal - some admin staff told me that the university doesn't have enough space for everyone, hence they have to start earlier in the morning to gain an additional lecture slot during the day (nevermind the fact that this slot is from 12 to 2pm and is always used for lunch break).
This shit really makes me furious, if not even universities which should be run by people that rely on hard data to make their decisions can come to the conclusion that starting the day early either means fucking up the long term health of their students or having people skip lectures altogether, I don't know if anyone ever will.
Sorry for any mistakes in my post, for context it's 6:30am and I'm getting ready for a lecture (riding on 5 hours of sleep for a few days in a row now)
Not trying to be a dick here, but in the hypothetical "on the internet nobody knows who you are", why would you need to specify if you're a man or a woman? I've personally always loved the interactions I've had on the internet back in the 90s-early 00s because someone's opinions/contributions could be analysed objectively without having to fall into the trap of subconscious biases based on the person you're speaking to rather than the object of discussion.
This is not to negate your feelings of being under-appreciated or respected because of your gender, but I am genuinely curious as to why your first response in this scenario would be to fake your gender rather than not caring about it.
I mean, he makes a living out of repairing Apple products even though he's not certified. He might have an innate bias against them for whatever reason, but as someone who is interested in tech but not an Apple user the stuff he says about Apple makes sense to me and doesn't seem biased in order to make them look bad.
I suggest you watch some videos by Louis Rossmann on youtube to understand the problems with Apple's repair policies. The problem isn't with Apple certified repair shops, but with independent repair shops
that's what he's saying?
Apparently the motivation for the attack was that "KyoAni has stolen something from the attacker", unconfirmed reports that the something in question was a Light Novel the attacker wrote but got rejected by KyoAni, which apparently then got turned into an original work by the studio (possibly stealing here and there from the LN or anyhow drawing inspiration from it) without crediting the attacker or compensating him. I can see this happening in all honesty, I am sure that editors get to read a lot of stuff from applicants which can then be polished to produce something in-house, kind of like when bigger companies fish for start-ups tech to reimplement it in-house.
Anyhow, the article doesn't mention it but I just though I would write this down in case anyone was curious about the potential motivation.
^ This is the main point. I've heard people in the US say stuff like 'I'm one trip to the hospital away from bankruptcy', and I honestly couldn't bear living with that thought always in the back of my mind. What if you fell ill and didn't want to become a burden for your family? Do you off yourself? Do you become the next Walter White? This is absurd.
Why should a stranger be forced to pay for your medical care?
It's always nice to know that there are human beings around that would prefer not to pay a very small sum of money into the system in order to save the life of another human being because apparently taxation is theft. What kind of fucked-up world view is that? Do you really believe that the life of someone with a fat bank account has more intrinsic value than that of someone who is poor? Law and Healthcare should be the two things where everyone is completely equal and deserving of the same respect and care, the money you make should never dictate whether you live or die.
I really, truly hope you will never find yourself in the situation where a loved one's life is hanging by a thread, and that thread might be cut just because you ran out of money. If you can't emphasize with someone in that situation, or worse it, you can imagine yourself not caring or rationalizing the outcome, then I feel very sorry for you and hope you'll be able to find peace within yourself and learn to love other human beings a bit more.
My mom is alive thanks to this machine!
A few years ago she got Legionella pneumophila and had to go in pharmacological coma for more than a month in order to survive, we were very lucky because my dad decided to not trust our GD and bring her to the biggest hospital in the city (only one of two with an ECMO in the whole country at the time).
I thank the amazing people working in medical research for this amazing device, had she got ill a few years before she would've surely died, instead thanks to human ingenuity she is still here, was able to see her son graduate and I hope we will be able to share many more years together. Seriously, if you work on these machines, thanks from the bottom of my heart and keep up the good work!
P.s.: What the actual fuck is up with the US and its medical costs? 4 million dollars for a stay hooked to this machine? We paid a grand total of 0€ for the whole stay, and after being in the ICU for close to two months my mom spent at least another three in the hospital. This is crazy, even if you add up a life time of taxes paid into the system by all our family members you wouldn't even begin to get close to that kind of number. I am truly convinced socialized healthcare is the only way forward, thinking that my mom could've been dead because we didn't have enough money in the bank sound so fucking dystopian
TBBT is a show written by non-nerds trying to describe what nerds are, and failing miserably.
I have tried more than once to watch it and every time I felt actual physical discomfort at how bad the whole thing was; Even though the show is not strictly about nerds but rather a parody of SV culture, I find HBO's Silicon Valley to be so much better at describing nerds than TBBT - at the very least I can actually laugh at the jokes and there are slight hints that the writers actually know what they are talking about.
I used to think like you wrt the social media conditioning, however now that I've experienced IBS on myself I changed my outlook on it. I am sure that there are people who eat specific diets just because it is a fad and they get conditioned into it by their social circles or influencers they follow, however I am also now quite sure that some of these conditions are very real and people suffer quite a lot because of it (and not necessarily in a physical way but through a very high psychological burden also).
I can tell you from my personal experience (YMMV etc.) that I was able to eat anything and everything without a single problem whatsoever until my early twenties. I was the type of person to eat a kebab at 4am and then go straight to bed and sleep like a baby, now even thinking of doing something like that makes me feel sick. Some of it might be due to aging, certainly, and the doctors I've spoken to have also suggested that increased level of stress might've had something to do with it (which ties in nicely with the gut-brain link), but still what I experienced is that from a certain point forward I wasn't able to eat most foods anymore without feeling really sick (and this has been diagnosed as being IBS, which is truly just a catch-all for gastroenterologists when they don't know what the fuck is causing you problems). From my experience going forward I don't think that it's triggered by very specific foods or stress by themselves, and I've come to the conclusion that it must've been something systemic that I did that led to this outcome (i.e., eat small amounts of glyphosate every day multiple times a day for years).
I think we should really take better care of ourselves and at least explore these potential risks very carefully before dismissing everything as a social media fad / zoomer thing
I don't think there's a way to readily avoid it, unless you can grow and process the crops yourself. Organic food, afaik, more times than not is worse than run-of-the-mill industrial products so tread carefully. Unfortunately I don't have much advice to give here since I cut out gluten almost entirely from my diet.
It is also being linked to celiac disease and gluten intolerance more and more https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3945755/
Something to consider when talking about anything wheat/gluten related is that SO many people nowadays are starting to show signs of gluten intolerance/allergy and this might be due to glyphosate rather than the gluten itself. I come from Italy and trust me when I tell you that everyone and their uncles eat a diet that is 99% gluten-based, however until a few years ago nobody ever had problems with it. I am starting to truly believe that we are slowly poisoning ourselves without realising it and then blaming the wrong culprits for it.
This sounds quite interesting to me, have you tried a FODMAP diet for your IBS symptoms before switching to keto? I've been going back and forth on FODMAPs for the last year and a half to try and pinpoint what it is that triggers my symptoms, however no matter how "cleanly" I eat I often end up getting symptoms from foods that are supposedly safe for me (or no symptoms at all from stuff that a few months ago would've given me days of problems). I'm looking to switch it up a bit since it doesn't seem like FODMAP is a viable long term solution and it's not solving my problems entirely, would you recommend looking into keto?
