A lot of GNU Radio is actually written in C++. Looking at some examples, it seems you don't need Python to create the flow graph either, that can be done in C++.
Sure I can see that, but isn't a base station implementation just as complex?
I'm confused, there seems to be open base station implementations such as OpenBTS, why is there no SDR based cellphone already I wonder?, as that'd be really neat in my opinion.

Am I right in thinking from watching the CCC talk though, that you can simply use another computer to do the debugging, as they show a debugging cable which crosses over wires.
I assume "USB Debug" option in my BIOS refers to this feature, however it did seem to be shipped "Disabled" for me.

Technically I don't think it is an SDR, as it's not using software to generate arbitrary modulation schemes. The chip is capable of transmitting data through certain modulations.

I attached a little polystyrene circle to the top of the hydrometer, for the IR to bounce off.
Unfortunately the approach didn't work too well because of yeast krausen pushing the hydrometer about.
This sounds very cool, I'm curious what wavelengths of IR they can convert.

I don't think the photos are exactly up-to-date, but I currently have an STM32F429 DISCO dev board, configured with a ladder DAC, so I can generate the analog keypresses for the safelock via my laptop, the board also sets a pin high to force my oscilloscope to trigger and capture the voltage from my ucurrent, which is hooked up to the battery of the safe-lock.

The chip itself covers 119–1050 MHz, but the modules I have, have filters on to allow only narrower ranges.
I really wish there were cheaper Tx capable SDRs, as they look like a lot of fun! The cheapest ones I've seen at the moment seem to be around $200 hackrfs from aliexpress.
Yeah I agree it's a really cool hack! I wonder if they could have even used multiple chips to increase the resolution, assuming they could re-package the silicon to minimise gaps between them.
One of the books I really love is "Hackers: Heroes of the Computer Revolution" by Steven Levy. Which shows the inventiveness of those guys!
With respect to AI, that sounds really interesting, I'd not thought a lone researcher could create something so complex, but that would be really awesome. One of the projects I find really fascinating is OpenWorm, if I recall correctly they have a bunch of videos, where the neurons of the C. Elegans worm have been recorded optically and they're creating their model from those.
I love how it sounds like it's a re-purposed memory chip used for the camera.
