That's true but in reality I think people are far more afraid of AI in terms of how it is being used in warfare and policing. Automatic target detection and deployment of drones, or even how it might simply make their role at work redundant etc

I'm seeing some hate for SOLID in these comments and I am a little surprised. While I don't think it should ever be used religiously, I would much rather work on a team that understood the principles than one that didn't.

yeah, i had intended to allow that but it just felt messy when i considered strategies for syncing the espresso logs from from non-account users to when they do finally sign in. I'll probably eventually get around to it as I do agree it is a little annoying to be forced to login but for now its just a "magic link" sign in and there is a button in settings where you can delete your account pretty easily.

I've moved to pCloud for photos and I've found it to be a good alternative. One frustrating thing is that if you are cycling through your photos on the default pcloud app, they are usually slow to render which can be frustrating. Playing music on the app is also a little frustrating. It works, but it it's not an amazing UX. Other than that I am completely content with pCloud though, and I would recommend it.

One other thing to be made aware of is that the macOS ecosystem seems to be a little hostile towards pCloud and it seems to be fighting a never ending battle in order to the get the remote drive functioning reliably there. It works, but it can be a little annoying at times.

On a related note, I have been working on an app that helps determine the correct grinder setting when dialing in espresso. After logging two shots with the same setup (grinder, coffeee machine, basket etc), it then uses machine learning (and some other stuff that I am still improving) to predict the correct setting for your grinder based on the machine temperature, the weight of the shot etc.

Its far from perfect when it comes to predictions right now but I expect to have massive improvements over the coming weeks. For now it works ok as an espresso log at least.

I'm hoping after a few tweaks I can save people a lot of wasted coffee!

great idea, but seems a little futile if there is no protection agains llms training on HN comments. ironically, if HN can succefully prevent llm content, it will become one of the best sources available for training data

Its good PR. He had some pretty bad PR recently that caused a lot of people to boycott the service. I assume this is him trying to regain trust or something?

Thanks for the feedback. The images come from pixabay, pexels, and my own camera, some will be AI generated, most aren't - they are selected for their suitability in learning certain vocabulary. The hints are all manually added. AI is used for translations (although I am in the process of replacing most translations for the non-beta languages with professional translations) and feedback. If you found the web app UI to be "janky" maybe you could try install the native app for your device.

I don't disagree with what you are expressing but I think you are overgeneralising.

Sometimes the idea itself can be interesting. If AI is used to manifest the idea then so be it!

Secondly, I think it is almost unavoidable to use some ai generated content (code, design etc) when developing these days. Its just a tool and it can be used well or used poorly.

Lastly, I agree that there does exist a lot of what can truly be labelled "AI slop" where it is just lazy regurgitated content, and that is annoying.

I don't know any online tool which would provide me which mine does, and frankly the reality nowadays seems that it could take me more to find one if it existed.

That is a pretty interesting point. I've been running into that problem quite often recently.

thanks for having a look... Did you look at the actual app or just the landing page? You ask why would I post it even though it is not perfect. Well, I personally find it useful (thats why I made it). It helps me with bridging the gap between comprehension and expression. And I am curious to see if others also find it useful. I am in contact with professional translators etc but that is probably not something I would be wise to invest too heavily in if the idea itself is not interesting to other people.

I have been considering various flows to keep people more engaged (there are currently challenges, smart flash cards, and achievements) but at the moment the app promotes "active" learning, and I want to be careful not to introduce anything introduces "passive" learning learning paths like you might find on other apps where you don't really need to think or fully engage. My thinking at the moment is that I'd rather a user just learn something once and never come back than return every day and learn nothing..

If your home pages looks like this (https://www.ycombinator.com), you can expect people to try want to "launch" their startups on your forum. There seems to be a large contingent of HN users that have settled on the belief that if something is done using AI it is "lazy slop" and it needs to be shunned! Obviously this can be the case, but its pretty evident that the technology is going nowhere and anyone who is not incorporating it in some way (workflow or actual end product) is just holding themselves back. The fact that it has opened the doors to allow developers work on ideas that they would not have had to the time to do previously should be celebrated in my opinion. For people who are interested in creative web projects, we live in very exciting times, regardless of the negative noise.

I do personally check out shownew quite often, yet I would never really visit new. I might not be a typical user, but I think I am a lot more likely to engage with a shownew post than someone who comes across it on new.

fun! While they are not great for everything, I find they can be useful for doing work with images locally. For instance, if you have 1000 unsorted holiday photos you want to sort into different categories etc.

I tried to share a project on Show HN recently (twice!), and I didn't get a single user interaction (basically no one even visited the project, nevermind responding with a comment). I don't think my title was that bad, its more just that there are so many new projects using AI that people are fatigued from it. Its kind of a shame because I'm sure there are lots of really good ideas that are being completely overlooked because of this.

The site design looks a little like it was spit out by an LLM. That is not really an issue in reality but it can turn off certain users. Adding a personal touch can go a long way

I really like this idea. Simple interface, a single goal, it and it doesn't claim to be a full piano course. However, the user experience is incredibly frustrating for amateur players like myself. For some reason i have to hold down each previous note or else it fails? And often when I do play the right note I get no feedack to say so. Another thing is the annoying wait between listening to the piece and playing every time. It would be nice if user input immediately cut out the example piece

Great job! A useful resource, and it works surprisingly well on mobile. I think you should try improve the SEO quite a bit because it looks better than most of what you'll find in a search engine at the moment.

I wish there was a directory of some sort for these "specialized LLM tools". But I guess the "circle of ai" means that these custom prompts and such will eventually just be regurgitated by the models themselves, so it might get dated pretty quickly.
