I've always thought the Apple TV + shows exhibit the most uniform "look" of any of the streaming services. Ted Lasso is probably the most pronounced example with vibrant colors, bright/uniform lighting, and a consistent "clean" look. I guess it makes a lot of sense given Apple's design aesthetic. Has anyone else noticed this?

Dear Tech People is the result of pulling over 70k profiles on LinkedIn across 100 companies and processing all the data with name analyzers/facial recognition tech/and a bunch of actual humans on mturk. The project seeks to answer questions like how many women work at Snap or how many black engineers are at Docker. Hopefully the transparency in this project helps diversity advocates make cases for the change they want to see.

It appears to be something related to vision, and some of the questions for attending developers mention "a new type of sensor" and machine learning.

Maybe some Kinect style 3D vision systems? The picture looks like it is in a tablet form factor.

What's interesting is before the 1970's it appears as though there is just one group of players, at which point they become three. Then, over the following 40 years these groups seems to just get heavier - most likely a response by teams to maintain heavier players than their opponents in certain positions.

While the general growth over time makes sense, I wonder what caused the shift specifically in the 70's.

This is classic price discrimination. As television channel packages become less of a moneymaker for cable companies, they need to find new forms of revenue and methods to segment the market. In separating certain content from other, especially internet data which is all the same to them, the ISPs are able to better maximize prices. Truly a tragedy, and all the more reason net neutrality is vital to the future of internet freedom.

This is an excellent point.

Perhaps this is not indicative of a rise of engineers who become interested in management, but individuals already interested in management (or are of that mindset) choosing to get a degree in engineering instead of Business. Given the tremendous value of an engineering degree, especially as a guaranteed high level of income, it makes sense practically minded managers would prefer such a safety net.

This is really great. It may also be useful to have the phone detect when it is held near your face (setting a minimum size for the facial detection).
