I used PhoneGap professionally 4 years ago for hybrid apps. Since I stopped using it my sentiment is "Cordova has to die".

Monogame is impressing and open source, also for PS4 development. Also Xamarin is awesome if you're into .NET.

Never experienced frame lag with Crossy Roads, and I played it a bit. Something like this _can_ happen with Unity, but if it happens it's 99,99% bad programming, and not the engine's fault, unless you do graphically extensive things, which Crossy Roads certainly didn't.

That's a good pool of questions to choose from. How long do you think would not take an applicant to fill all of the questions?

My questionnaire for the same purpose (hiring) has 30 similar questions, yet including some that query soft skills.

E.g.: "you got the following email from a customer, please write down your answer to her inquiry".

Or: "the CFO, the CEO and the CTO are approaching you with the following different requests, how do you react to them and in which order would you process them".

Wow, this is pretty sophisticated and commendable. I'd love to have the resources to do something similar. In contrast to 'standard' application development, automated testing is really rare in the non-AAA games industry. At least in terms of logic-/active gameplay testing. It's pure luxury, you can only do it if you can afford it. In a project-based work for hire game shop this is an almost unthinkable thing to do, because you don't get it sold to your contractors/customers. They just won't pay for the effort you don't our directly into the game. The only thing you can do is to develop your own automated testing framework over time and over projects, which is a tedious thing to do because you cannot really focus on it (because it's not a first class citizen in your project schedule).

Really interesting. Only two weeks ago we've been told by an AWS Architect that "if you need persistent TCP connections to servers avoid the ELB and connect straight with your [scaled] EC2 instances". This was for a higher load scenario though.

Game Dev CTO here, having worked with Spil already I'm curious with what he will come up. I totally agree that we need a change in mobile game design. I love the tech behind the games, designing backends which quickly have to serve millions of players. But I'm hardly actually playing mobile games, because they are repetitive, always the same pattern, hence boring. I love disruptive games which bring in new tech like Supercell's Clash Royale, which took real-time gaming on mobile to a new and never seen before level.

On a funny side note, Nolan has eagerly started to follow mobile game devs on Twitter. The day he started following me I just wrote "I can quit now, my life is complete" :) Now I know what he's up to.

Unqualified comment, I admit, but GoDaddy as well as other domain shops seem to be stuck in the late 90s. With UI, tech and support quality. Also Namecheap, which I'm using primarily. They just put a fresh UI on top of parts of their customer acquisition facing system couple of years ago and still run the same core system.

Come on guys, where are the academics? Instead of overreacting please just reverse engineer, get the facts and check WHY the Uber app actually requests these permissions. I mean, it's still Java, so you got the source. I don't think they're using native code or do more obfuscation than the average app (disclaimer, haven't checked (yet)). Who's first?

Not exactly sure what you mean, but the funny thing is that there seems to be no single-word translation from the German "performant" ("with high performance") to English. Or is it?
