i stopped ordering delivery for the most part as i'd rather walk and get it than pay the markup. a lot of restaurants are either spinning up their own app with discounts OR are offering a discount for ordering directly thru them. and honestly, i'd rather a local restaurant get more profit than just cutting it over to one of the apps.

a month ago my wife wanted to order chipotle on a lazy sunday and it was $64 for delivery and only $31 when i went to stand in line and get it. unreal.

i loved the touchpad. it was def priced too high and when it dropped i bought some for my family. the OS was really nice and they really should have toughed it out and iterated more.

fantastic. i was about to make my own after being frustated with bruno's change in billing and just lack of quality.

having gone from postman -> insomnia -> back to postman -> bruno - id like to just have something simple that _just works_ without making it a pain.

i guess it depends! i've been collecting for at least 15yrs and i still keep it organized alphabetically and then chronologically. i always loved the idea of a 'high fidelity' type organization system though.

i started lemmy with a programming instance, as it's a bit more focused on what i want to see. on android i use an app 'Sync for Lemmy' which makes it a little easier when i want to branch out into viewing all of lemmy.

this is almost exactly how ive been using llms. i dont like the code complete in the ide, personally, and prefer all llm usage to be narrow specific blocks of code. it helps as i bounce between a lot of side projects, projects at work, and freelance projects. not to mention with context switching it really helps keep things moving, imo

i like to bounce between projects week to week and am in a huge phase of just trying to build services i pay money for.

the first fun thing i'm working on a roguelite(?) type of petsim in dragonruby for my wife and i to play.

then i'll go back to working on my mtg collection / deck builder app. instead of rewriting in nextjs i decided to just go modern rails with it and i am honestly having a lot of fun. a redesign helps too, but once you get the hang of turbo/hotwire and stuff it really isn't that bad.

another thing i've got kicking is writing up a portfolio site for my old photography since that current hosted plan is about to renew. this is more of a stability and performance issue as i really liked using Format, but every single time i go to show my port to someone irl i would either not load or take forever or have images missing. extremely frustrating.

i'm very tired of SaaS pricing going up (with unwanted features) and user experience and value going down. reallllllly fighting the urge to just build a clone and try to take a cut of the overall business.

i just recently started working on my own event server in rails (similar in idea to mixpanel) and have it deployed for my portfolio site.

love starting projects and getting them rolling. i wish i could just work on stuff i cared about all the time honestly

my company just changed the policy from unlimited PTO to a set amount (4 weeks). it made me realize that in almost a year of being at this company i've only taken 1 week off, and that was for my wedding.

ended up taking this week off because i really need to make sure i'm at least taking off the minimum given. this is precisely why we changed our policy. i would've taken more off if i had a baseline of what normal employees took off but most people didn't really.

yeah i have a macbook pro 13" that work got me. M1, 8gb of ram and for what i'm doing i've not even noticed a slowdown.

rails / react / arc browser with tons of tabs, spotify, slack, vscode, obsidian, etc all open 24/7 and it feels as snappy if not snappier than my personal laptop. plus it's plugged into a 4k monitor.

i've been seriously impressed

my wife took my $5 timex watch and just put her mouse on the face of it. kinda blew my mind because her request was very out of left field. but it works!

initially, i was going to try to 'launch' a side project each month of 2023 but after getting my first one to MVP for 1/1, i realized that's probably a pretty unrealistic goal (even with simplish ideas), haha. i guess i'll just work on side projects like normal and not stress about it.

as a real 'goal', i want to invest more time into being active in community stuff. i feel like i've never truly been a part of any community
