The hypocrisy of download defenders is exposed when re-distribution is the concern. Most content producers and publishers are fine with downloading as long as you don't re-distribute (which is theft), but we have no way of preventing that, so they are forced to close the download gate

May have to do with https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/NU?p=NU and vesting periods :)
A true computing thought leader. All the best Rich. My only complaint about you was not open-sourcing datomic and making it free for developers.
Non-Asperger people think linearly. They also need structure, rules and 5-year plan for their career.
Every rescue attempt is a practice run for something more important in the future. Whether it's a cat stuck in a tree or a Billionaire in the bottom of the ocean, first responders must attempt rescue for the benefit of humanity.
Explorers always make plenty of rookie mistakes. I'm sure there are plenty of lessons for future explorers, first respondents, regular people from these events.
For Data Driven Decisions, you must first have the correct model of the universe (or at least the subset of the universe that you are interested in) that you can feed the data in.
A vast majority of orgs that claim to be data-driven don't have the correct model
Results can't be measured in knowledge work
History is littered with companies that went dead because they focused on things that don't matter (open source, anti-microsoft, pro-linux).
There will be a time when those things matter when it hurts the bottom-line (Dropbox), but to prematurely optimize for that while you are finding product-market-fit is crazy and all companies are finding product-market-fit in the new AI era
It doubles as a Tablet and a Phone and I'm willing to pay Tablet + Phone + Convenience price for it.
A concept not hard to understand.
Good job. Nit picking. Have a cookie. No wonder you miss the bigger point in life focusing on irrelevant details
A translation service from Swedish to German has no practical value to me. But, I don't go on the internet dissing Google for providing that service to people who find it useful
Yes, I bought an iPhone 4 and then upgraded to iPhone 6 which had a larger screen.
I had a 55' TV and I also bought an 85' TV.
I had a 24' monitor. I also bought a 34' monitor
Not a difficult concept to grasp
HN/Reddit : For years, "I'm happy to pay for services that has no/few ads".
Companies: Here's a ad-free version. Subscribe
HN/Reddit: Why are you asking me to subscribe? I hate this
You'd pay double the price for double the fridge capacity (if doubling your capacity serves useful purpose for you)
You'd pay double the price for double the screen size (if more screen size serves a useful purpose to you)
It's really not that hard of a concept to grasp.
Irrelevant analogy. Let me know when you can build your own Tablet.
yes, that's why I'm the one who is pointing the following trait to the HN crowd who are blissfully unaware of it -- "Irrationally Hating things / people that have provided net benefit to the society (utility, pension plans, 401(k)s, employee salary, productivity, standard-of-living)"
The Public's lack of imagination / vision is the worst indicator of anything. There is a reason there are only a handful of Jobs, Zuck, Elon, Bezos, Gates, Buffett in the world but 15 Million people on Wallstreetbets.
yes, most HNers are affected by it. That's why you see a massive anti-corp, anti-tech, anti-capitalist despite data screaming at them the massive benefits of tech, capitalism and corporation.
Microsoft didn't have dozen products over 500 Million users in 2005. They only had Windows, Office and IE.
Ballmer set the foundations for many of Microsoft's success today, including Azure
Most people lack the vision beyond 15 minutes. Of course Metaverse is a failure for them, just like how Internet was just a glorified fax machine for luddites. So, popular opinion is the worst indicator of anything. Happy to make a public bet that Metaverse will consume 25% of a person's day for at least 4 billion people by 2035
If transformer doesn't excite you (mostly due to anti-Google bias), Google has a dozen products that has over a 500 Million users. It takes an unprecedented amount of anti-corp brainwash to say Google isn't successful or innovative.
If you have a near perfect model of the universe, it isn't hard to predict stuff. It just needs prompting.
Next question
Lot of Googlers are anti-big-tech, anti-corporation :)
1) If you think Transformers weren't category defining, I don't know what to say.
2) Metaverse isn't a failure. That's like saying in 2019, "Chat Agents are a failure"
None of those people are sociopaths. You are just projecting. You haven't met the person or know anything about them.
Shopify, Apple, Google, Meta, Amazon all have long term goals.
Meta/Google/Amazon/Microsoft are literally investing R&D $ that will pay off 10+ years later.
Yet they all have laid off people.
Just because you laid of people doesn't mean they aren't thinking long term.
Really how can reddit/HN and social media be so blind about this when they have data screaming at them?
I lived in a country which had
democracy + socialism
democracy + capitalism.
One period marked poverty, child mortality, While the other marked good standard of living and reduced child mortality.
I'll let you guess and pick the confounding variable from the equation. That's the advantage of independent thinking vs brainwashed-by-liberal-universities (and thank god I didn't study in some brainwashed liberal university)
The cable company that lays out fibers to enable people work from home can't have cable people work from home
I'm sure you'll use the same logic when a coal worker is fired, right? The hypocrisy is mind-boggling.
Then he should stop ranting about Executive pays.
You can't have it both ways. Start misinformation about how capital markets work and not expect to be corrected.
HN is a discussion forum. If an incorrect fact or misguided opinion is shared, it will be debated.
I'm sympathetic to OP, but I also understand the dangers of misinformation and the resulting brainwashing of anti-capitalistic movement it causes and I will protect capitalism.
C-Suite are appointed by the Board.
If the board thinks they are not doing their job, they will be fired.
How is it not difficult to understand for a self-appointed smart crowd?
I'm sorry for you.
The CEOs / Executives are literally appointed by the board who in turn are voted in by shareholders. It is their job to increase the share price.
The world is better of with efficient capital deployment.
So, I don't understand how the smartest people in this world don't understand the fundamental working of capital markets.
Note: it's the same shareholders that have allowed to get $200-$300k TCs when smart people around the world toil the same as you for $60k. So, you can't have it both ways

Thank God for the Supreme Court which will see right through Lina Khan's agenda. And you can thank Lina Khan for destroying FTC through her overreach
