The elite in Canada want people from countries who have lower work environment expectations.

Over the last 5 years Canada has taken in hundreds of thousands of new immigrants. The govt has a plan to boost the population to 100 Million.

As a result Canada now has the highest housing costs in the world. The Universal Health care system has a massive backlog. Emergency rooms have very long waiting periods and you cant get a family doctor.

At present the population has rebelled so the elite have reduced the inflow somewhat temporarily.

If you're a business that offers 3 services to the public and "AI" could automate one person's salary out of your payroll, why would do that as opposed to keeping your headcount and instead offer 9 services to the public generating more streams of revenue?

Because cost cutting increases share-holder value. See Jack Welch at GE. Over time he destroyed the company but also raised the share price tremendously.

Its interesting how the VCs just want to apply AI to creative tasks/occupations rather than mundane/drudgery tasks.

AI should be applied to all those horrible tasks we wish we didn't have to do. Example, teachers using AI to mark tests, exams, preparing lesson plans, etc. Yet the mentality of VCs is to replace the teacher.

LSDs aren't just about replacing workers, they can be about enhancing worker productivity.

When wages become too expensive, you automate. That's economics.

Keeping wages artificially low (with Immigration for example) disincentivizes businesses from investing in new technology (aka LSDs => Labor Saving Devices). Productivity declines. The economy stagnates.

The problem with the "I've got nothing to hide" argument is it's not "you" who decides what is "right" or "wrong". The entity doing the "spying" determines what is right or wrong. "You" might think "x" is ok, however the "spying" entity may have the opposite view. And it is the "spying" entity's opinion that matters, not yours, because it always them that have the power and authority in determining what is "right" or "wrong". Moreover, definitions change on what is "right" or "wrong".

Totally agree. I think also the Scandinavian countries were sad to see the UK go, as someone else has mentioned in another comment, it was a counterweight to German/French hegemony.

But the irony of the 2004 enlargement is that is what primarily led to the UK voting for Brexit.

Immigration is to keep the wages down. Also, third world immigration is preferred because those immigrants are more tolerant of crap wages, crap working conditions and crap existence lifestyle than domestic workers.

Apparently Canada spends less on its Public Education System than the United States but teachers salaries are higher in Canada. US Public School System is top heavy with administrators by comparison.

Finland has no private education. The rich elite have to send their kids to the same public schools as everyone else.

The rationale is the rich elite will demand that the public school system will maintain education standards. And the converse that if the rich can send their kids to private schools why would they care about the standards of public schools?
